Maria has worked tirelessly to save what's left of the Appalachian mountain communities where coal can be found...If your job is tearing down the Appalachian mountains for coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel, I suggest getting another job, as Obama will shut down mountaintop removal coal mining.

Maria and her colleagues across the state have worked to promote a wind farm, instead of destroying the great Coal River mountain. Wind farms will create permanent, clean jobs.

West Virginia, you should be immensely proud of Maria Gunnoe, she has been recognized for her work by the world, I do hope West Virginians can join in!

well, let me tell you something new yorker, because of 80 years of rule by abraham obamas party in WV ,there are not other good paying jobs in WV other than coal related jobs.there are no other jobs PERIOD on coal river than coal related jobs.

if you and your buddies, the vast majority of which are living on government money, are successful in stopping coal mining, i want you to be present each and eveery time when a repo man goes and take a vehicle from a family whos husband lost his job and cant pay anymore. i want you to hear the kids[that you claim to care so much about BTW] say "where is our car mommy"

Or when a bank reposses a house because the man lost his job and all his down payment and all payments on his house

you care about kids? you make sure your there when they are crying when mom and dad lose everything!

Let's hope our "Leaders" see the sign on the wall and start investing in jobs for the future, my grandma always told me 'never put all your eggs in one basket'

just how do most of these crmw people support their family?

Where do they work?

Does Haltom work?
Does Webb work?
Does Bonds work?
Does Wiley work?I hope so, by god he can walk clear from Arnett to D.C. He could at least be a door greater at Wal-Mart

I am sure a few work,I think one works at Lloyds and I commend her for that, but how are they making their living?

again, no one is trying to stop coal mining, just mountaintop removal. and also, my husband worked in the mines for 18 yrs. and was laid off, after the unemployment was gone he had to take a much lower paying job and was eventually hurt so many times that he had to retire at the age of 45, and i didn't see any one trying to keep us from losing anything we owned! good thing is, we learned the hard way not to live above our means!

It's obvious her cause is lost. Even West virginians don't want to save west virginia. Just drive down any road and look at the garbage.
New York City is clean compared to WV.

i dont agree with coal mining 100% either. BUT i agree with people making a living. Let me lay this out so everyone can comprehend it.

some of you say that coal mining needs to stop, its the reason why the earth is the way it is. some of you say that the miners are the ones that need to get a job.

WELL. first off. The mines aren't made of only miners, you have different little companies that are in connection, secretaries, corp. companies, security guards, etc. if mining is shut down for good, then everything is gonna go. mining supports many people, look at the railroad comp. no more coal to haul. look at the truck drivers, nothing to haul. many people heat there homes off of coal still today. you will have many mines not only Massey to have find jobs. inspectors are needed, they would be out of a job. what about importing and exporting. many ships use coal to ship. coal is used for energy. the production companies would be shut down. convenient stores that get 75% or of their business from miners, but suffer and die down. MANY coal companies provide donations to local schools for sports or educational needs because the state wont. ICG has gave 4 laptops to seniors in need for college over the last two years at liberty high school. MAN DONT THAT SOUND HORRIBLE. A COAL COMPANY ACTUALLY HELPING THE COMMUNITY OUT. I see no environmentalist donating the money that they get for objecting MTR to schools or education.

the reason for the delimma today is the lack of knowledge from the past. we over consumed coal underground. so surface mining was brought into play.

as well. CONSERVING, KNOWING, AND BEING RESOURCEFUL is what we need to do. WHY cant we have solar, wind, and coal??? you want wind farms so badly for cleaner energy, but you dont care to double the price of OUR MONTHLY BILLS. Wind mills are already frowned on because they are killing birds and bats. So do this, put wind mills and solar energy plants in. keep the coal. USE ALL 3. why not.? there would still be jobs kept and LOADS OF OTHERS THAT YOU SAY WELL BE AVAILABLE for the unemployment like yourselves.

further more, how about recycling, or not using your vechicle unless necessary or walking to local stores. how about turning lights of in the house in rooms in which you arent in. or turning the water of when you brush your teeth. GO GREEN. learn to conserve a little. Change the energy source in your home. maybe if this NATION would stop depending on $300 a barrel of oil from other countries and be more concern with out nations plan of resources rather then shutting them down completely then it would be better

no one thinks about how it will effect us as a state or individuals or a family. what you think is its killing the trees and streams and how ones that work for a man that would do that will go to hell. thats not it dears. Ones involved with mining have worked for where they are and stand today. no one is going to be happy, and this will not end. SO FACE THE FACTS. Miners, etc arent the bad guys. Dont blame mining for the whole worlds and the earths disintegration. It was disintegrating before I was born. It was a development over time with hundred of 1000 contributing factors.

uh huh, thats right, she freeking rocks so go and suck it if you wanna hate on her for standing up in what she believes in. she will go down in the history books as a true hero - is she flawed, sure she is, who isn't? will she be recorded in history as a hero - yup. thems the facts, like m' or not the world revolves outside of WV too, hard to believe I know but its a big ol' world out there and what happens in WV doesnt stay in WV as much a anyone would like it to it don't. So, here's Maria, dealing with the mess in her backyard that happens to relate to the Climate Crisis we face globally at the moment and the more you all resist her, threaten her or try to take her down the bigger her hero badge will be internationally so keep it up if you want to be part of making her a hero and raising her profile because y'all been doing a pretty good job so far! the more you run your mouth, the more brave she becomes in the world of the eyes - ya dont made her famous for her bravery!

been to so many MTR sites that look nothing like that, in fact never have seen one that looks that way

besides - who cares about "then environment" when peoples foundations are cracking, well water poisoned: http://www.youtube.com/watch...
http://www.youtube.com/watch... (not even mentioning the folks in Mingo here), homes at the head of the holler covered in silica dust from blasting and that little thing called climate change... these are the things that bother me.

on top of that its seems plenty of hard working men are having to fight tooth and nail to get their due when they're injured on the job and there just arent enough jobs to go around. if coal mining is the only gig in town there will never be enough jobs to go around. mono-economies do not work - never in history has a mono-economy worked just ask former residents of Detroit.

there are plenty of ways diversify the economy in the coalfields but there sure wont be if all the resources are destroyed: mountains destroyed, streams covered, hard working people sick from dust/bad water... it just doesnt make sense in terms of financial stability for community it really only makes sense for those few who run the companies who are making way more money than they could ever need.

Daily Horoscope for November 24

Virgo

If you've been under pressure lately, you might reach critical mass today. The sensitive Moon clashes with the Sun, adding an edge to the mood in your relationships. You're likely to bite your room-mate's head off if your head isn't bitten off first... try to find something to laugh about to ease the tension. Those of you in intimate relationships can channel all this wild energy into passionate encounters, so avoid senseless bickering.
