I have been reading some of this forum and it brings back some memories. I remember cruising thru CC in my 53 Ford. It was like going to town to this old Fireco boy. I could get a dollars worth of 25 cent gas and do a lot of cruising. If I was low on fuel going toward home I could take the old Fireco ridge road and make a shorter route. I remember sitting in Frasier Gills barber chair many times and hoping he would not cut off too much. I can remember going to the Mountain Market with my mom and thinking it looked like a big shack much like my home. We were very poor in those days but I didn't realize it until my teens because most of my friends were in the same boat. I remember hanging at the Club. Pecker Jones was the bartender there at the time. He also ran the projector at the Fireco theater. Warren Spahn ran the theater at one time. Spent some time at the Hob Nob in the booths with Ebby, Buddy, Red, Jackie, Jimmy, Kenny,,James and others. Bobby Shuck would hang at the Hob Nob and Club but since he didn't drink he would have pop or something. I was a good friend of Tommy Miller, a great guy. Have many fond memories of Stoco. Coach Castanon was one of my favorites. Remember spending lunch periods at Johnny and Mrs. Wells place near the school. Johnny had a punch mine near Willibet also. Mrs. Wells was my favorite teacher at Fireco. One time I went to look at a motorcycle on the old dirt road that is now Independence Road. Joe Frost lived in a house there and had the bike for sale. I didn't even know a road (if you could call it that), existed there. Right then, about 1970, I told my wife "One day there will be a nice hardroad thru here". I remember Lloyd Keffer when he was a coal miner, he loved to play poker. Knew Wanda for many many years. Razz Akers was a real blast. Anyone remember Sterlin Wills, Hokey Thompson, Cecil Adkins? I could tell many wild stories about my old man here but I won't because it would surely give me away. Keep the Faith until next time.

Also remember my mom shopping at Tilsons Market. My sister worked there for a while. I remember the old Tilsons at Josephine before he built at CC. I was a friend of Dannys. He would go to the store many times during lunch period at the school. Have many fond memories of CC, Fireco, Jonben, Whitby, and that area. Keep the Faith.

Earl and Skippy and Paul Deweese were hitchin to the poolroom down there when thay guy decided to Whoop Earl..lol
Danny Tilson was a friend of mine as well..I had this little Honda Dream motorcycle and Danny would trade me for the day his Red 64 Corvette convertable and he would ride the Motorcycle..he must have liked motorcycles because the next thing you know he bought the big Norton bike he had.
Poker games at Bucks shack behind the Bluegoose.Every saturday nite..I dont know you may have set in some..I know I sure did.
Bobby Shuck, Once he myself and Ronnie Fink were working on a bridge over New River at Radford Va..we taped the handle on his JackHammer and he went to town with it.

Do you remember when Cecils brother Buck was killed unloading equipment from a flatbed on a construction site?..Billie Adkins comes to see me every summer when he comes in for the Stoco reunion.Still calls me His Boy. I know if you know Bille and knew Captian you have heard this one before (Jockey Strap)..LOL
One time we were working in New York City and left up there in Bobby Shucks car I think there were 9 of us in his car a big Dodge or Chrysler I think 3 in the front and 6 in the back seats..Bobby driving..Me in the middle cause they said I was too big for the back and Billie in the passenger seat..I really cant remember who all was in the back but I do remember we were in Pa and the breaks on the car got real mushy but we came on in anyways..That was a trip..
Marshall Rickets telling about some of his boxing matches in the Army.

I sure remember Captain (Jackie) saying "jockey strap" everytime he thought he had fooled you or got the best of you. He also was very fond of calling you "farmer" if you weren't on the same page as him. I remember Marshall when I was a kid at Fireco. He married one of the Asbury girls. Gerald Asbury, her brother was my best friend for years. Gerald and I walked every step of the way home to Fireco from Little Beaver Lake Hop one summer. We messed up by hanging around too long and all the rides left and we had no way home and no traffic moving that early in the morning, We got home after daylight. I had a Honda Dream in the late sixties in Chicago, brought it home with me. Had to take it apart to fit in my Corvair. Been riding bikes for about 42 years now, owned the same Sportster Roadster for 26. Do you remember Bobby's pink Chevy Slantback? I think it was about a 47 or 48. Ronnie Fink worked for me as an Electrician in the mine. One of the best electricians and hardest workers I ever seen. Do you remember James Adkins? He was killed by a rock fall at Whitby on Sept of 74. I let him hold my 56 Ford for me in Chicago while I spent some time for Uncle Sam, Told him to keep it for me till I got out so I would have some wheels when I returned. He sold it. Keep the shiny side up and praise the Lord. Sure love to hear old stories about the Gulf area, especially Fireco.

Ditto,Thanks for startin this thing back..I have sure missed it..Lot of Folks have told me the same thing..If we dont talk about the old days whos gonna know just how much fun there was way back Yonder..
Talk about Fireco well once up on a time Ronnie Fink, Keith Lester and Myself rented the Poolroom from Gene we all were workin in the mines and I was runnin the Club at the time..we had the 3 pool tables one OK Penball machine and a jukebox..sold pop candy and every weekend I would load the back of my truck with cases of Beer from the Club and take down there so we could BootLegg beer..lol..I think I was sellin Beer for 35 cents a bottle at the Club but we sold it for 50 cents a Can there..since we were all workin anyways and didnt have time really to run it ourselves we got Bobby Shuck to run it for us...add to that we had all the punchboards you could think of goin all the time so we were doin rather well that is Rite up to the time Bobby sold someone underage beer not for them they said but for someone they had came to get it for who was Older...OOPs then the State Police got involved in our operation in a very Big and Unpeasant way when they Stopped by not only was the Beer there and Punchboards but we had a Sawed off shotgun behind the counter...well to make a long story short we went out of Business rather quickly...Whod a thunk It?
I mentioned the Black Dream I had as the very first vehicle I ever bought if 2 wheels count as a Vehicle since you know Ronnie Fink you might know his Brother Donnie...well I sold that Dream of mine to Donnie when we were still in High School..
I cant remember in just what order this happened but I once owned a Sporster XL-H and Donnie either bought it off my Step-Dad or me as well or I or we bought it off him one way or the other..But the XL-H was a great bike as well.
And OMG yes I knew James Adkins and was so sad at his passing James was one fine Guy..I reckon if he were still around as much as I thought of James I would have did the same as you when you let him hold your 56..Just wish that could happen now..

Sorry didn't mean to be so blunt on my last comment. I don't like just giving out information to anyone. My uncle is Earl Shrewsbury.

Hey Family Information, after reading where you are from, I think I figured out who you possibly are. My grandpa and Earl were brothers. I don't have any pictures of my great-grandparents on my computer. My grandma I know has a lot of pictures at her house. Sorry wasn't trying to be a pain on the first reply to your post. I haven't been on this website until the last couple of weeks, and like any other website I get a little leary because you never know who is on here or who is reading this information. I wish there was some way to talk to you without completely posting information on this website. In reading other posts on here, I don't know if I want any of my information to be completely posted on here. This is a good website, but like anything else can be abused.

Yeah Crystal they are I think I sent you a request the other day. Not sure if I ended up accepting yours or not. This is Steph. I was debating which one of you it was, but knew which part of the family you belonged to. Will look and see if I added you or not.
