great idea if someone develops it but don't do what Braidwood did; force out the businesses, tear down the building and leave it a gravel lot. Actually we should have let that building burn down back in 1991 when the chimney caught fire.

We don't need a place like babes on either end of town although there is enough white trash to go around atleast keep it on the south side of the tracks

Those businesses would have been gone. With the money they would have received they could have relocated or retired! One very large building(business) and parking lot would have replaced it all. That business would have produced 10 times the tax dollars all those run down businesses now produce. Bozo's blow it for the town and all those land owners, some of which had already signed agreements to sell based on all of the others agreeing.
It is the building owner who is responsible for upkeep on the buildings not the business owners in those buildings; the business owners are merely tenants in their buildings.
Don't you think that they would clean up their building if they had the means to?
The owner of the building next to Little Marias, as well as all of the building owners in Coal City had an opportunity to get low rate loans through the village to repair their buildings 2 years ago, but none of the building owners took advantage of this opportunity.
It is not the businesses in these buildings fault! I'm sure that all of the business owners in these buildings would love to see their building be repaired so they are not only no longer an "eye sore" but so the "rustic-ness" of down town Coal City is preserved.
Just because the buildings on the corner of Broadway St. and Route 113 look like shit doesn't mean that the businesses in those buildings are dilapidated like the buildings!
Yes, a corporately owned business like CVS could generate much more money than the current businesses. Clearly you must not support entrepreneurialism or small business because a CVS would not only put Doc's and Coal City Pharmacy out of business but it would affect other small businesses in town as well!
I get that the buildings are falling apart and a nice new building would look nicer on that corner, but no corporately owned business is going to invest in tearing down and re-building in Coal City, let alone in this economy!
Sure, it would have been nice for all the business owners on the corner of 113 and Broadway to be bought out by the developers that were going to build the CVS 3 years ago, but the fact of the matter is, it didn't happen and there is nothing we can do about it now. Hopefully the building owners fix up the buildings that will most likely be there until the economy turns around, Coal City starts to develop like it was before the housing market crashed & another big business comes around looking to take that corner over. In the mean time they will most likely remain an “eye sore” but it is not necessary to attack the small business located in any of these buildings just because they have a slumlord for a landlord!

At least you guys don't have the weed fest going on in mazon. There's a shop called mazon auto works and that place is a dive, weeds up to your waist in the back. They didn't fix my car , but still charged. WTF!

Why do the Trotters act all high & mighty when they are sucking up all these subsidies with farming? Now I hear about a couple hundred grand to fix up that old farm house with money the government gave them? Why? So they can park tractors out front with little flags on theim?
I'll never forget how the wife said they wouldn't help the other parents out at the concession stand because the were "pillars of the community". Give me a break.
Surely there are more stories of how they've screwed the pooch.
