Did they really have to call today a snow day??? Come on....everybody lives within a few miles of the Coal City schools. Even the kids wanted to go to school....its not like it had even started snowing when they decided to call it this morning.

I can't think of a single instance from my schooling days in which I was disappointed by having a snow day.

There is zero chance all students wanted to go to school, and it doesn't matter what they want anyway. This is a safety issue. If a bus got stuck in a snow drift or worse there would be people complaining that the school should have called a snow day.

Were you hiding under a rock yesterday when every channel was predicting snow Armageddon? You probably would have been the first person on here complaining if your kid was sent home early on a bus in the middle of a storm. Maybe it is not as bad as they said it would be, but that does not mean they made a bad call.

The weather is unpredictable and I am glad the school chose a cautious approach.

Glad my kids don't live in Wisconsin or Minn or Alaska. They would never be able to go to school.... It's just snow! It will be gone by this weekend lol. somehow the rest of life seemed to survive today

Good lord...they were only calling for a possibility of 8-12". Kids in Wisc., Michigan and Alaska...thats funny....this walk in park for them. We were in the Upper Penisula a few years ago when the last "big" storm hit & the people up there were laughing about how funny it was that people in Chicago were stranded and how they were acting so helpless...it was quite embarassing to have to say we were from here...lol. Quit babying the kids and maybe they wouldnt think they're entitled to shit and grow a pair to take care of themselves!!!

What's this? Places that get more snow than us have more resources devoted to snow removal? Shocking!

I've been to the UP in winter. Tons of snow and mostly clear roads. If we got dumped on like they do some days up there it would take days for our plows to get everything opened up. It's not a matter of them being "tougher." It's just like if it snows a couple inches in Atlanta everything shuts down because they have maybe one or two plows in a town and nobody owns a shovel.

It's still snowing, it has been non-stop all day. It is exceedingly obvious that the right call was made.

Do u think in part its because of the sue happy society we live in ,if your kid was going to school and the bus crashed they would be lining up to sue bus company and school its a safety thing get over it

School is cancelled more for the country roads than what the school parking lot looks like.

Yeah it's been another mild winter, but the fact is yesterday was the most snow we've gotten in a few years and was easily enough to cancel a day of school. They make it up at the end of the year anyway, it'd be stupid to not cancel based on the forecasts.

I cannot believe there was school today. The roads were horrible. Looking out my window cars were slipping and sliding.
