could this be something to consider if your thinking of saving a lot of money in your village ask yourself how much dose a policeman make benefits per year add them up and you have a lot of tax money you are paying each year now reduce the benefits make them part timers pay them a much lower wage you save a lot of tax money this has worked in other villages and has worked very well and saved the tax payers a lot of tax money in this economy think not only cold city should con sitter it all other villages should take a look at it there is not a boutem less pit of money out there or is there?

If this happens who will you call when someone is breaking into your house in the middle of the night? County Sheriff? He's pretty busy right now as it is. AND - can you count on the local government to reduce your tax dollars that would normally go to the PD? My guess is no, they will just piss them away, and not on snow plowing during the winter storms.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This sounds like a really stupid idea.

Ya lets get rid of the people who protect us. How stupid is are village board. How about lets try to get rid of less important stuff. Next they will be wanting to get rid of the fire Dept. There's no point in CC police, shit gets stolen, people hurt in domestic disputes and much more crime occurs daily that they have no control over....CC police were good at giving seat-belt tickets and that's about it, so much for serving and protecting, what a joke! Save the town a mil a year and put it to infrastructure put people to work damn it!!

if anyone pays attention most of the time they are working 12 hour shifts purposly meaning they are getting way overpaid working the overtime hours and they do this every shift. after 4 days of work they get paid for an entire week and a lot of that is overtime pay. that is a waste of tax dollars.

You people have no idea what will occur if the police department is disbanded. Only the neighborhood slugs are overjoyed.

The current administration in this town needs to be replaced. They are worried about the cost of the police force that protects and serves the community, but at the same time they want to waste thousands and thousands of dollars on silencing the train whistles. I've lived in this town for years the trains going through town are just part of it. I can't be the only resident that sees something wrong with this.

Everyone has an opinion but no one has the facts. Here is what I have found out.... The police protection would be increased by having two squads on duty all the time, CC Police would be consolidated into Grundy to increase needed manpower. Diamond has Grundy now and pays little or nothing...do Diamond residents feel unsafe? Morris is doing this with their dispatchers...why... because consolidation works and saves taxpayers money.Disbanded is a word developed by the press to sell papers. Settle down.

Thank you for checking into things unlike almost every other person who comments on this site!!! I also checked into this and have heard that even discussing the idea is STEP 1 of about 122 steps. You are so correct in what you say about the press.....the only reason the article was even written was just to stir stuff up and bottem line to sell the paper!!

Ok so.. The Library is a district and has its own tax money, the school is a district and again has its own tax money, same again for the fire department. We dont pay overtime to plow our streets to the village workers. What are the taxes going to beyond the police department? A village administrator? No businesses coming to town and all the subdivisions slated were mothballed... If we are too small for police, probably too small for our administrator and our inspectors and... Police are not dead weight to cut!

The housing market will turn around. Quicker than you think. Watch for all the developers to return to our area. Village administrator ... this guy makes money for the village. Check and see how much in grant monies is has obtained for the village. That guy is golden. Research before you speak. Know the facts! And I am just a taxpayer!
