its not that animals are more superior then humans, i just think you should have enough common sense to treat every living being how you would like to be treated. rather if its a dog, cat, or horse. im sure they didnt have feces caked in their hair so why would you let your dog get that bad.

I am curious as to why Fries hired an attorney who lost the 2 big profile cases he handled in the past? And a plea to summary is not a win.

"Conrad said that his clients "are not guilty in the least." He added that "since the dawn of time" animals have defecated on the ground."

Yes, but they need to be able to get away from it to be in a clean environment. If they are confined then it is the responsibility of the owner to keep the area clean.

Well all those poor abused animals ARE far superior to the heartless Friese's and their nitwit attorney IMO.

I happen to agree with everything all of you said. Our animals don't have voice of their own so we have to speak for them. My dogs and birds are my babies and I wouldn't think of making them live such terrible conditions. I clean my dogs living area every day and my birds get cleaned out once a week. You wouldn't want your children to live like that so why treat your animals any different???

"They're going to do it on the ground and sometimes they're going to step in it" OMG!

Excuse me but dogs/cats have paws NOT hooves and will only walk in their own feces if they DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE TO WALK ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!!! Yes they do their business on the ground/yard outside but you will NEVER see them walk in it afterward. That ONLY will happen when they are FORCED to stay crated until they can't hold it any longer which (by the way) can be hours. The nature of domestic animals such as dogs and cats is to NOT **** where they sleep even if they are OUTSIDE!!! Hello?????? Oh this dude is a real Matlock all right. Better save your money, Ralphy and take your chances with a court appointed public defender. Duh!!!

If a person doesn't have the time or interest to meet all the needs of having pets then they shouldn't have them.

Since you are an expert on domestic animal habits regarding feces can you tell me why they eat it, sometimes before you can run to clean it up?

I have one old girl, whom I love dearly, but she has the most nauseating habit...she waits to catch the poop of other dogs so she can eat it. She and all my dogs get free choice feeding of premium quality, corn-free dog food, so I don't think she's hungry.("Free choice" means there's a bowl of kibble out 24/7 for them, before anyone asks.)

Dogs tend to eat feces out of instinct to disguse their presence, especially mothers with pups, or because the food isn't totally used up..kind of a form of afterburner.

By far I am not an expert. I have no explanation as to why some dogs eat others or their own feces. Apparently Huskys do not since they were covered in it!!!!! I only stated the obvious abuse these animals were forced to endure by being penned in crates where they had no option of avoiding standing, sitting, laying in their own poop! And pointed out that this so called lawyer evidently doesn't have any pets of his own to make such a statement. Hopefully the fact he as so out of tune will be a plus and he'll lose this case and they throw the book at Fries'...and they will never be allowed to own pets again!!!!! Better yet, let'm do jail time in a cell with no commode!!!!

They can afford to pay an out of town attorney but couldn't afford to care for their animals??? Ralph you sure have changed since high school!! I just made an appt. for our 1 cat at the vet because she's not acting herself. If you love your pets you take good care of them!!!

NEWSFLASH: Animals and children are not equals.
Do you REALLY treat your animals the same way you treat your children? Bedtime stories and all?

If you know anything about animal behavior, this is a behavior issue, not standard for all dogs. Do some research or call your vet if your dog is doing this. This couple hired a "high profile" lawyer???? No one has ever heard of this person. As the the responder stated " dogs do not walk in their mess. As a matter of fact, some breeds go way out of their surrounding ( weeds, etc) to go to the bathroom. So if this poor excuse of dog owners are keeping their dogs in cages and not cleaning them, they are guilty of mistreatment.

I being a law enforcement Officer myself, and an animal lover I have to make a couple comments! Animals can not speak for themselves that is why laws are passed to protect the ones who can not protect themselves! Point two Animals are just that animals they dont have the mental capabilities to make good decisions on there own, thus the phrase Animal.I feel strongly that these people probably suffer from a mental condition that is called Hoarding. They themselves are animal like, because they hoard animals to show them love but dont have the neccesary facilities or financial ability to properly care for them! so do we punish these people for a mental ilness or do we as a community do the right thing for the animals and the People involved such as educate the public, provide services such as medical care for the animals when people cant afford it and treat the people with a mental ilness to the proper care or do we continue to make these sick people MONSTERS in the public eye? By the grace of god there goes I is a phrase that comes to mind!

There is no standard for all dogs, that's why AKC has standards for each breed; one of the wonderful things about purebred dogs. One trait of my breed unfortunately is they eat poop, and some other breeds must also because the Vet and the Pet Smarts of the world sell lots of pills to try to stop this trait / behavior. And I agree many dogs will go in the weeds and other places we like, but mine will also purposely go in their bed or food bowl if they get attitude with me.
