Dirk M. Remington, age 46 of Clyde, N.Y. passed when a tower he was working on collapsed. Does anyone have any background information on him? An obit?

I have lots of information about him. I am his father. What would you like to know? His obit is posted at Finger Lakes Times.
Do you know him?

I am Dirk Remington's mother. I would like to hear from the people he was working with that day. It's like a wall of silence.

I believe there is somebody out there that can tell me exactly what happened to my son. Maybe at that time there will be closure. Its still like a nightmare that I can't wake up from.

I now know the value that is put on a life. What a shame. There has to be a punishment for the lack of safety that they put these climbers under. Is the money all that importany. I wonder if the owner of Demand Communications son has climb a tower since my sons death. There has to be justice.
I will not forget and will continue to seek answers.

Can anyone explain why in the last two year there have been no deaths or serious injuries climbing towers in England or Canada? Could it be their safety standards are better or at least enforced? I agree with my granddaughter that DCI should be accountable for gross neglience.

Dirk always enjoyed Clyde fireworks. They were the best. Life is not the same.

Water tower collapses in Hawaii killing a climber, The tower was not braced. Repeat of history. Nothing evidently has changes. Two climbers were trapped in a water tower in Sarasota, NY. Temperature was 135 and no water. They were trapped for three hours before rescue. They were only supposed to be in the tank for 15 minutes at a time because of the extreme conditions.

Dirk's poster, along with other workers that were killed in work place preventable deaths, are posted at the Dept of Labor in Washington DC. We attended a school on becoming advocates for better safety practices in the workplace at George Washington University. It was sponsered by USMWF, an advocacy group. Their motto is "Going to work should not be a "grave" error".

I went to the tower site for the first time yesterday. It was chilling and took all the beauty out of that part of the world for me. I could see the horrible incident repeated in my mind.

I'm back from NY. I didn't feel better in fact worse. What a waste of several lives. My son which is the most final. My husband and I and our other children but most importantly his children. They are so lost. Please contact your represenatives and senator encourages them to vote for the law for workplace safety. Go on the site "USMWF." See the pictures of all the innocent people that made "a grave mistake by going to work. It could happen to you or a love one.5902

Please call your members of congress and tell them to support legislation to strengthen workers health and safety protection. Time is running out. They want to finish up and hit the election trail. My son was doing nothing wrong, only trying to earn a living. Your love one could be next. The company my son worked for closed their doors. They can continue on with their life and family. My family will never be whole.

By the way his death was completely preventable. Did you know in the state of NY you cannot sue your employer?

I read a facebook entry made by Dirk's youngest daughter. Trying to make sense out of his death. I read it several times and cried through it each time. I want so bad to wake the country up and make them realize how wrong these deaths are. It just didn't happen to my family. IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOURS. Demand ommunications has closed their doors. OSHA cannot get a response from them. If you were requested to respond to something legally, would you or could you just ignore it. I always tried to obey the laws. I went to the site were my son died and I wondered how the son of the owner of Demand Com. sleeps at night. He has a new baby and I pray he will be around to support his child.

Dirk,
You have been gone for a year. Sometimes it seems like forever and sometimes it is like yesterday. When will people realize that the American worker is the engine of our sucess as a nation and must be protected? We continue to lose 14 to 16 workers every day to death and no one really knows how many to injury. Add to that the harm to a family at the loss of someone so necessary to its structure and you have epic tradegy.
