Is it just me or does it bother anyone else how law enforcement in the city/county use the police cruisers for their own personal use? I mean we as tax payer are paying for their $3 almost $4 a gallon gasoline so they can run around to Wal-Mart, Advance Auto, K2, and also run their families around in the car.

It also bothers me to no end how I get passed at least twice a month in Irvington by a speeding Hardinsburg city cop on his way to work in his dodge charger. Hmmm….i guess he has the right to speed and break the law since he is a “law enforcement official”

I see Breckinridge county government waste so much of my tax money each day , it is just pathetic. I know this is a small town, but it is the only place I have ever lived where the city and county employees are allowed to drive city and county owned vehicles for private use, and for free at that. It is not uncommon to see a Hardinsburg city police cruiser at the liquor store in Meade county, or how about our new Emergency Manager in his nice white Durango out farming on the tax payers dollar. I complain, I write to my elected STATE officials everyday, and they like the pictures too. Someone has to stop the nonsense and waste that goes on in this little town.

I cant comment on the police, but i can tell you that the EMA director makes a Part Time salary, and i think it is safe to say he works more than full time hours. Along with the numerous hours also comes the fact that he are subject to being called out at all hours of the night for an emergency. I would say that the take home car hardly offsets the 20k+ more a year he should be making for the work he does. It's not a job i would want, and i'm sure if you had to do it you would feel you more than deserved the take home vehicle also.

I figure people should get paid what they are worth, and the Breckinridge County EMA Director, which is a full time position is WAY over paid.

You people that comment online about police never seem to have the guts to say anything to our faces. I have a take home car and I use it for personal use occasionally. That is part of the package! My 30k a year (with much overtime and twice as much free time) is supplemented by a take home car. Also, when you see me in my car, I WILL be armed and ready to react if I see something or if I'm stopped for something. I don't take the car to the liquor store and I don't fill it with groceries! Lets comment on the hundreds of people that stop me while I'm eating with my family or every time I get stopped at the grocery store to hear ALL of YOUR problems. Maybe you should get a job and stop spending so much time on your computer! AND.....many times we get calls that need to be reacted on quickly but may not require lights and sirens sooooo.....worry about yourself and what you should be taking care of. If you still feel the need to complain about everything you can find just call us....our number is 911!!! P.S. Just wondering if you could tell me about the many uses of papertowels. Just a hunch..

Thank You mannbreckco.....I'm not speaking about myself but this county is pretty lucky to have the law enforcement it has. I know that some people may not like a few of us and that's ok. Everyone has an opinion but, if you don't like the police because you have gotten a ticket or a DUI, then maybe we were just doing our job. I have had bad experiences with officers in larger places and I think there is a huge difference in attitude from a country cop and a large city cop.

City police have a set budget that comes from the general fund and that's what they use to operate. The Sheriff collects fees from serving papers and collecting taxes. That money makes up their budget. I would think that most people agree that having the police cars on the road more, for personal use or not, is not a bad thing. I realize gas is high but we pay the same high prices for goods as everyone else. Our pay hasn't went up either. Yes, we do not pay for gas out of our pockets but we are expected to react to situations while we are in the car.

Jumping to conclusions is not good for any of us. My car has been at B&H in Meade County and at the Adult Bookstore on one occassion but I was there for an investigation. People that like to complain probably would have saw this and immediately thought that I was a drunk or a pervert. If there are officers using their cars to run the type of errands that was referred to above, they should rethink that. Going to buy beer is not ok but running to K-2 or Advanced Auto shouldn't be a problem. Maybe we are getting something for our police car. Also, I work out of uniform from time to time so seeing me in plain clothes may not indicate that I'm not working.

Most of the police here care about this community or they wouldn't do the job for the pay. The ones that may not be in this line of work for the right reasons need to go into another line of work. We are watched very closely and everything we do is spoken about; good or bad. I believe that most of this community think of us as equals and it's nice to see that there is one more willing to comment on our behalf.

Just for the record,

I am willing to make my name official to this post.

I hope I can say that certain individuals still do not hold a grudge on me for leaving Breck County 911 to work full time at another law enforcement agency that made me an offer/package that I couldn't refuse.

Since I've learned that our law enforcement individuals believe its me dogging our local law enforcement, I am on record officially to say that its not me, I have no idea who it is, nor do I really care who it is.

For the ones that believe that, learn the facts before you start pointing fingers and assuming please.

(Plus, my grammar is so much better than the original and subsequent posters.)

Try again guys! Its not me.

Some officers may feel like they are above the rules and laws... but not all are like this.Call out this officer, write a letter to your counsel make your concerns known.

I have been in Sherriffs office three times in the last mnth and each time there are about 4 or 5 women just standing around, some are making coffee for visitors . Seems like the sherriff needs to find these people something to do or do the standing himself and send these women home.

The men and women who serve as police officers (city, county or state) are underpaid. They put their lives on the line everyday for less than a manager at Mcdonals makes. Then they have to listen to billy-bob, who is mad because they broke up his meth lab and arrested him for beating his wife, complain because they drove their cruzer to the store???? It is called haveing a larger, visible police presence. What is really messed up is that the ones that complain that they wasting are tax dollars usually arent paying any taxes. The last time I check we do not tax Meth, Crack or Herion.

If you are not doing anything wrong then I dont think you should be concerned where the cops are or where they have been!!!

People talk about money for gas in the cruisers, lol what about all the Meade county people that hardinsburg mayor hired for the police department I believe the number is at three , they were hired over several of my friends that have lived in hardinsburg and breck county all there lives and these Meade county people drive the city cars at least 30+miles one way to get to work in the city we pay for that too. That's over 60 miles every day before they even drive doing there jobs lol I've not seen that happen yet either. 180 miles a day between the three before adding the miles driven working. I wonder how much we pay for that gas. How much gas milage does the chargers and new Durango get per gallon. At least there are still two good cops there from the county. ( for now)

lmao love not a cop hater just stating facts some are good peoples some are dumb uneducated idiots. I will let everyone make there own decision on that , who's who. I think it's funny hardinsburg ended up with three of the worst Meade county has to offer. Makes all Meade co peeps look like shit. Then again a lol place like hardinsburg I am sure can't afford good cops that's why none stay. I have family in the burg and all I hear is how all the best cops have left over the last 5 or so Years. But it's understandable what's the burg got to offer.
