I have paid an annual membership to Noah's Ark for many years but I think I've paid my last dues to them. If they made it less costly for people wanting to adopt they might not have a 50% euthanasia rate. It saddens me that so many animals are destroyed each year.

If you can't afford the $50 to adopt an animal then you can't afford to own a dog. $50 doesn't even cover what the dog cost the shelter.

I have never seen so much animal neglect until I moved to New Mexico. Every day I see dead dogs and cats on the roads...Most with collars. If more people actually took care of the animals they have..The shelters would not be so full.

I agree, but it's only part of the problem. You have to consider all the folks who breed pit bulls, thinking they'll big money. They might earn a little, but comparing profit to cost of food, the cost is even.
Did you know that pit bulls are the dominant breed in the shelter. That's because all those people who bought all those puppies throw them away, without an ounce of guilt or regret.
Don't you think the women putting the pets at Noah's Ark , go home with heavy hearts? Could you go to work each day, knowing during that you would be required to kill a pet someone just threw away? Thank these women. Euthanization is preferable to a dog or cat spending 2 to 3 months out in the weather, starving to death.
I have a solution: Put breeding restrictions on Carlsbad. Charge $300 to 500 per year for a breeding license. Punish people who broke the law breeding unwanted pets. Some cities in Colorado adopted this plan, and the shelters had much fewer unwanted pets.
I know the next post is going to say, "I'll be damned if someone's going to tell me I can breed my pets. Then they sneak to Noah's Ark in the dead of night to disgard their unwanted pets.

I don't get it either. I grew up here and have watched people refuse to neuter their male pets. Usually its the male figure in the household that has some problem with seeing Fido or Tiger without his balls on. My neighbors, a hard working family type, are inexplicably the same way. I've tried reasoning with them, even pointed out how it would help to keep the dog from wandering off but they are both staunchly opposed. This dog isn't even used as a breeding animal. They just don't believe in neutering him.

Good luck changing people's attitudes in this. I sure haven't had any luck.

Is there any kind of state or city law on illegal puppy farms, I know this guy has four female dogs they are always having puppies he goes around selling these little pit bull puppies.
I was at Stevens lounge the other day, there was his guy had way too much to drink already when he came in he sit down with some of his buddies and was laughing about throwing cats and smaller dogs down into the pit bulls, and then the other guys got pissed off at him made him shut up.
There is illegal dogfighting going on somewhere nearby, state and city looking the other way.

The male doggie I own has not been neutered and is perfectly fine both physically and mentally. He is enclosed on my property by what is known as a fence. You have just been toilet trained to let others think for you. The only problem I have is that he likes to pee on the neighbor's tires and their bumper. I let him do it. It gets my neighbors really mad.

In Carlsbad, dogs and cats are completely disposable. Dogs are usually placed in a fenced-in back yard where they are allowed to bark incessantly all night long, go without food and water for long stretches of time, and then die a horrible death of neglect. But no problem, there are plenty more they came from! Or they are taken out in the countryside and used for target practice. This is true. And possibly worst of all - their meat is sometimes used to fill the taco shells and Mexican food entrees that locals love so much. But let's face it, whether it's talking on cell phones while driving, driving recklessly, or wallowing in radiation, this town is one nasty, barbaric pee hole. Cheers!

I frankly am a lover of animals. I live in the city limits and had a dog. She came everywhere with me, I took her to work with me everyday. unfortunately, I let her out to use the restroom at my work and some a**hole hit her and didn't even stop. I let my dog out that doesn't mean I was neglecting her. We now have a new puppy, and I will be damned if someone is going to tell me I can't. My next door neighbor even has a dog who is the most annoying creature on the planet. But that's his right.

As I predicted previously, someone would bitch and moan because they think they should be able to breed as many dogs as they choose. A law should be in place to fine stupid, inbred dog (or should I say, "Pit Bull) breeders from loading the shelter with rejects.

As far as you're concerned, it is your fault because you allowed your dog to run around at will, without the protection of a leash. OWN IT! Carlsbad Ordinances require they be leashed at all times when in the public. Don't blame anyone else for your irresponsibility. responsibility.
