This is a email quote from one of the resident's that live up there:

The fire started about 3 miles west of Mayhill on the South Side of James Canyon near Henshaw's place.

The power lines contacted during the high wind, sparks few onto some dry grass and that's what started the fire.

The fire jumped James Canyon somewhere near there and with wind blowing primarily East but some North the fire went into the forest.

They won't let anyone down James Canyon from about 4 miles west of Mayhill, but since we live on the SW corner of highways 82 and 130 we were able to go from Cloudcroft down Cox Canyon to our house.
I serousily doubt that the fire will come in our direction as the wind is from the west.

The wind is due to die down about now, but pick up tomorrow and strongly suspect it will blow from the west as it usuall does.

We understand that the fire jumped the basin where the Penasco River is and is burning at least 12 miles east, but can't confirm that.

There is also a rumor that some houses east of Mayhill that are near the Penasco burned, but haven't been able to confirm that either.

Last weather report I've seen doesn't predict the wind dying down for the next couple of days.

The winds tend to subside in the evenings is what I think they meant.

That street is in Robin Hood subdivision and at this time, it is not threatened.
