Wow! This is what it usally takes to get some folks on board with wildfire mitigation...Anyone remember the old Forest Health Coalition?(circa 1993), The old Southwest Fire Council?(circa 197..?)Before White Mtn Development, way before Sonterra. Agencies encouraged Realators, Developers to educate there perspective clients on firewise practices, governments to be active in there jurisdictions. Some folks in this new "grassroots" bunch were around then...by the way, how is the thinning around grindstone comeing along acting/deputy/chief/emergency manager?.Good thing Litle Bear didn't start there.....

Good memory ol-joe. Here is a guy (acting/interim/deputy know it all)that has the b---s to publically criticize USFS policies but has done absolutely nothing to get his own department involved with prescribed burns that are badly needed within the Village. If I can remember correctly, it was the last URBAN FORESTER and the last FIRE CHIEF that were working thier arses off to get some prescribed burning done in the Grindstone watershed. Nothing has been done since they left. Stop whining and do some work.

Talk is Cheap. The Village should take care of its own fuel problems before throwing stones.

Now on the other side of the fence, the objective was for the FS to clean up thier side of the fence useing Hotshots, engine crews, and even the old Eagle Creek Suppression crew...as Roy Parker would say..."That's Right"!!! That all ended in the early 80's...Now as soon as crews are on they are pimpin' out of area for a detail, through Giant Dispatch offices, filin' up SO's and district offices with more managers and ologists. Maybe those folks ought to grab a brush hook. The USFS used to Service the Forest...Now I think the USFS Services the USFS!....(They not the ony ones)

I find it a bit ironic that Dr. Vincent takes the 5th amendment related to the White Fire, a fire that his own relatives started and almost took out Ruidoso Downs but he now wants to be the public spokesperson and to direct a group of citizens that will openly criticize another wildland fire agency and its policies. This is the correct job for citizens and non-profit organizations, not the Village of Ruidoso as another government organization. Someone might inform him that the USFS folks that work in our local office also work for the USFS in Albuquerque and Washington DC and they help to mold national policies. These officials, along with many other supporting agencies have been discussing the liability of wildland fire policies for many, many decades and after each fire of consequence. The problem now is not policy, but acquiring the money to implement policy of forest thinning and prescribed burning on a massive scale. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Where are all the other uniformed wildland fire agencies that Vincent said would be joining him in his cause after the Little Bear Fire was out. I suspect they are behind closed door with the USFS where such constructive meetings can occur without inflaming the public. After all, the Little Bear did not enter the Village of Ruidoso. Yes, we need a village manager that will reel this guy back into doing his job in the Village. Who has given Vincent this mission and why is he not qualified to take on such a role. We have plenty of wildland fuels in the Village that could use some attention here. Burning had been started in Grindstone by the last administration and the burn plans, fire line and other interagency preparation had been completed for the treatment of other wildlands owned by Ruidoso. The Village must lead by example, not by inflammatory politics.
