Especially early in the morning at the crack of dawn. Apparently it is OK to run red lights, stopping is completely optional. YIKES!!!! Was nearly killed the other morning! Before you leave your house whenever you leave your house, say a prayer for those who are about to die!!! We salute you!!!

I hope that the mean and off-base comments above are not typical of that area of New Mexico. Ugh.

Can we actually discuss the article?

It covered some important issues, but could have been a little more balanced and noted some of the good sides of the oil boom. Still, I'm glad to see housing and roads get some attention from the media. I hope the industry's promise to work with communities is sincere and not just lip service.

The opening potshot "1960s mining town" was a little low, but probably fair. I think it is reasonable to say that the current boom presents a tremendous opportunity but also has drawbacks that need to be addressed. I wish the article had balanced the "lady who can not find a house" story with, maybe "guy who now has a good job and can feed his kids" a bit.

I moved from Carlsbad because it was a nasty town and I don't believe that's ever going to change! Now I have a good job and nice house and my kids have good schools!

I moved back to Carlsbad because the oilfield pays six figures and the cost of living hasn't shot through the roof like it has in Midland. All that money is slowly circulating through town, and improvments are being made faster than I can ever remember. I'd rather be here than doing some median pay job in a congested city any day...

Girl, I live in Texas and the city I'm in isn't much better! Nasty mean people are everywhere and like to hurt gentle people like myself with unkind words!
