Why is Renteria looking at bring someone from Dallas to teach math? Jimmy Swope is here, was one of Cloudcroft high school's math teachers (retired) and would like the job and the kids love him. Something stinks in paradise Tommy! Maybe this is one of your Texas cronies?

Jackie Cates says that we are so fortunate to live in Cloudcroft because of the community. Who is she? No one here knows her or speaks about her except the school board. She should start being a part of the community by responding to parents legitimate concerns and ensuring the administration and the board respond to written concerns by parents! This would be "fortunate" for our community.

BTW, the community is so glad the head of the democrates in Otero County is leaving and taking her distractions to a new school in Alamogordo.

In another note Renteria mentioned hiring some new coaches and the new athletic schedules. What happened to the current Athletic Director, Joey Rogers? Isn't it his job to hire coaches? Is this the way the board annouces that he is no longer the A.D.? What else are they failing to mention by omission?

I believe that Joey is no longer the Athletic Director. From what I have heard, he is going to be teaching full time which will be a nice change from what he has done in the past. Though his extra curricular activities aren't really a good role model for kids in the schools anyway, but that is a whole different story. Either way, last I heard, he is no longer the athletic director. So there is that.

I am not an advocate of Mr. Rogers. I do not think he is a good role model for our children as a Administrator, teacher or member of the community. As a matter of fact, I would not let him teach my children anything! If he is not fit to be the Athletic Director, why in the world would they put him back in the classroom? I am sure he did not resign his position. This is just another big mistake by Tommy Hancock and the School Board that they want to cover up and hope it goes away.

BTW, what has Mr. Rogers done in the past that would make this such a nice change? I am perplexed by that comment. Oh, I know, the principal and superintendent should know where he is and what he is supposed to be doing with the new assignment. I got it now.

Oops! I apologize, I did not mean that him being in the classroom was a good thing. I just meant that him actually teaching (which is his job) would be a change from before. When he was the athletic director, he was teaching 2 classes a day and then doing AD things the rest of the day. Seriously? In a school district that size, you have to use an entire day to work on AD stuff? Yet the district can't afford to hire another teacher for a grade level that was bursting at the seams with too many kids?

I guess I should have said him being in the classroom would be a CHANGE, not a nice change. And yes, you are right, now the principal will know where he is an what he is doing.

Jackie Cates is VERY involved in the community. Don't be talking crap about someone who is one of the most caring, wonderful, and committed women I know in the community. Maybe you should be more involved in the community.

Cates is one of the best there. She cares about the kids first and not the politics or selfish gain. She rocks. We need more like her.

I am not talking crap. I am telling it like it is. If you don't like it maybe you can talk to her and get her to change her ways. SHE DOES NOT RESPOND TO PARENT's LEGITIMATE CONCERNS!!! This is a fact. I have written to her on many occassions. Is she just a puppet? Since this is the case what is she doing there?

We need her to ensure that the Board or Administration responds to parents legitimate concerns! If she cares about students, she surely could respond to legitimate concerns from the parents. She is self serving on the Board. If it were otherwise she would address things that need to be addressed. I have seen her participation. It is sad. In the two meetings I attended she said two words. Yep, that is an asset. A sheep that follows another sheep off a cliff.

Since this appears to be such a major thing for you, why don't you put yourself out there and run for the school board in Cloudcroft? I am sure with your insight you could be a valuable Board member. Then you could have input on who is in administration and who is teaching. Your opportunity to make things much better for the students and for the parents of the students. Of course, expressing yourself on Topix is certainly much easier and requires no commitment on your part.

It appears that I can not state my concerns and opinion without repurcussions, but you can. Have you ever heard the term hypocrite?

If writing letters doesn't help then go talk to her personally. Cloudcroft is not that big. Go to the school and speak your concern. Go to a board meeting... Write something in the mountain monthly about your legitimate concerns... There are all kinds of ways around it. Sitting here calling her names and such on a newspaper site is not gonna solve the problem. It's a childish way to go about things. Good Luck DOOD.

Thank you for the advise. Unfortunately, I have done everything you suggested (except write an editorial to the Mountain monthly) and more. Since they do not respond to concerns I feel it is necessary to let the community know how they run things up here.

AH HELL!!! if you think things are bad up there you should go to any other school district, no matter the size and see the problems they are having. people like Rogers are a dime a dozen out there> After two tears I have only heard the cates name a couple of times and don't remember if it was good or bad. The board or the admin. could run this school into the ground and it would still be above many other districts. That doesn't mean they should be allowed to run it into the ground, it just means that the schools are pretty good. I hope the changes made are positive, for the students-teachers-community-ad min.-school board. Yes in that particular order.

mr. Swopes is a good teacher as far as I have heard. No more double dipping in the state of new mexico. Teachers from his generation will never be again. They will always have good elementary teachers but after that they lose control of the kids because they are unruly. Thank God they aren't afraid to use the paddle in Cloudcroft.
