FACTS: Car had interlock - it shut itself down in front of a stranger's driveway. Driver left, didn't take his ID. Car was found with unfired bullets in the front seat. Gun was missing - no word whether it was found with the body or not. Body had been outside in the elements for a long time.
Maybe you can ask the hikers who took the pictures whether the deceased had the gun. They would know.

It was already discussed that there was a gun in his hands.

Correct, and that information was not released by the police. It was released to apparently more than one person by the hikers who took the pictures, whether by their word of mouth or by them letting other people see the pictures rather than JUST the police. Since it has been stated that the police now have a copy of those pictures, and probably ones they made themselves, I wonder if those hikers will destroy or delete theirs in respect for the young man and his family. They certainly have no need for them. But again I say, SHAME ON THEM for treating this delicate information about someone else's love one in such a manner to start with. Would they want the same done to a loved one of theirs? I doubt.

Those comments were absolutely NOT made by OMI or DPS. You read those comments in the comment section of the article: "Hikers find dead body near Marble Canyon". Those were NON-OFFICIAL people making comments they had no right to make. Look at Post #39 above. Please don't attribute those uninformed comments to the police or the medical investigation people.
WRONG! I read the article on the ADN online Tuesday.

You are WRONG! You read the same article everyone else did but it's funny how no one else saw a statement like that from the police or medical examiner but you. The article is still there so you need to go back and read it (AND read the comments attached to it). The police don't make statements like that before the report comes back from the medical examiner's office and they would be stupid if they did. You absolutely are remembering comments made on the article by people who should have kept their uninformed observations to themselves. When you find that statement by the police that you are talking about, you need to quote it and who exactly said it, just like I did with Sheriff Benny House's statement.

The following is what you read, and they are ONLY COMMENTS made by people who got information either directly or indirectly from the hikers who found the body. These comments were NOT made by the police or the medical examiner's office. Also, these comments were made BEFORE even the identity of the body had been released through official channels. And the autopsy/cause of death report has still NOT been released, so these people should NEVER have said ANYTHING about the crime/accident scene and in my opinion are low-lifes:

momof3, Post #11, Monday, April 18: "It's been confirmed that it is Jordan Medina. Apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Very sad for his family."

Knows The Truth, Post # 27, Tuesday, April 19: "I know people who talked with the hikers and saw the pictures of the man's body that they took with their phone...my friend said she was pretty sure it was this missing guy...he still had the gun in his hands."

Fellow Hikers, Post # 31, Tuesday, April 19: "It's very sad that this young person apparently took his own life."

They should

Oops, didn't finish my statement. It makes it look like I was saying the commenters should take their own lives. That was not my thought. My thought was that they (the three commenters as well as the hikers who shared the pictures/information) should be ashamed of themselves for discussing such information so callously about someone else's loved one. And yet they would try to defend their actions/comments.

As I said before, if they think this is the right and moral way to release delicate information about this sad situation, then perhaps they will get the chance one day to feel what it's like being on the other side of the issue.

Topix has always been toxic. Victims and their families have been torn apart by many here over the years. I've seen much worse, believe me. Sad.
