So instead of parents being responsible for raising their children, the tax payer is on the hook for them yet again.

Since when are parents NOT held responsible for their kids to age 18?

I'm beginning to believe that the taxpayers of Ruidoso are malignant dumb. Just say you want to raise taxes and the taxpayers will vote to approve it. This nonsense about "homeless children" is just another con game that, apparently, the masses are falling for. Just like a recent article about a local church raising funds to build a school for poor children in Nairobi, Kenya. I am fifth generation South African and my family LIVED in Nairobi, a bustling metropolis. It is not some remote outpost with grass huts and dirt roads, for Pete's sake! Doesn't anybody know how to Google and check these things out?

I hate to disagree with you but I had friends that had no money for rent while going to UCSB and lived in the US Forest Campsites and showered at the gym. Not everyone is blessed with a lot of money.

If they were at UC Santa Barbara they were probably over 18. We are talking about underage high school kids that are the responsibility of their parents, NOT the taxpayers.

Do not feel sorry for anyone attending UC Santa Barbara, the seventh most expensive college in the US to attend. Why not just camp on one of their beautiful beaches. Besides, no one attends UCSB to get an education. It is a party school for hippies and surfers. Class is held between good ocean wave sets. Tell your friends that ENMU Ruidoso is cheap and will provide them with the equivalent education as UCSB.

Not true, Can`t sleep on Beach I got off topic by mistake . You can`t be a "hippie" and hang out all day and still pass you're classes. past the first year. Then when you do graduate you must pay off massive student loans. some of my friends got in free but still had no money for rent thus the need to sleep in the campgrounds. I thought that the hippies went to Santa Cruz but I guess we differ on that. BTW was in Malibu two days ago and I saw a disturbing sight. I saw new buses with no markings going thru Malibu on way to the Navy Base in Ventura filled with all those kids from South America ,It pisses me off that people are homeless in Ruidoso and Santa Barbra and everyplace else in America yet our BEST treatment is being extended to other countries kids and not our own.

Does anyone know who these irresponsible parents are? And where are they pray-tell? Why aren't they parenting or at least providing financial support for their offspring? None of this was addressed in the article but I find these questions quite pertinent. Before allowing these parents to get off Scott free, I think there needs to be an investigation. We have agencies that are paid and funded to deal with family problems and child neglect and abuse.

Just why are teenagers homeless? Runaways? Kicked out for not abiding with parental rules? On drugs?
It's all well and good to be concerned, but doesn't this well intended counselor believe in asking Child protective services to investigate the background and circumstances of each child before she gets the taxpayer involved?
Yes Gladys, there are agencies to help these kids. I'm cynical and suspicious enough to question, why hasn't Ruidoso PD been called in to investigate? A minor is a minor, and to my knowledge that minor falls under state jurisdiction. What kind of position is this woman wanting to create for herself?
Before any council decisions are made, it would be wise for them to do their homework, and bring in the correct agencies! I can see Liabilities and law suites by the parents in the making.

Yes, there is much more to this story, but will we get it? So often, we are expected to buy a pig in a poke here in Ruidoso. Right Mr. Hubbard?

It sure sounds like the BRT supporters are trying to find an excuse to keep it fro expiring!
