Jeni Alexander and Stephanie dubois need to give it up already. They run for everything. I guess they like to see their name in the paper. they don't have any kids in school, so give it a rest already. You all are all washed up, so put on your slippers and sit by the fire like nice old ladies!

Did not know it was a requirement to have kids to run for office.

If more people in the community got involved there would be different ideas and thoughts, But sadly not all are able to run, Good for them, if it makes them happy and active, no harm is done.

Alamogordo 9 votes, goes to show why the system is as it is. Most elections have few votes since most people could care less to show up and vote yet it is a great freedom that some fought for.

I salute anyone willing to run for public offices, so I, too, say "GOOD FOR THEM!"

People can care for our children even if their children are grown or if they were never blessed to have children...maybe they're the ones with the time and energy to actually be most effective on a school board.

No problem.. So we will see your name in the polls at the next election???

I just became a voter here and wasnt allowed to vote in the election. It susprises me that there is very little interest in elections in this town/county except to complain about them.

Don't you know that all non profits in this town are the same... same board of directors over and over, no wonder there is not change and our schools here are political and awful.

If all the candidates were running unopposed what would be the point of voting? Did you even read the article? Were you one of the nine voters?
Really

Everyone needs to read and understand the reason for the requirements for voting.

Elected officials have to be ELECTED. Even if only one vote gets them elected, they must get the vote and it has to be placed by a registered voter.

Read the New Mexico laws........

Nine votes is sad though.

My intention for running for school board was to give people a choice. Whether or not I have children is not the point and is not really any of your business. I own a small business here and pay taxes which includes school taxes as you very aptly pointed out I do not have any children. I am not exempt from the taxes However. My being an "old Lady" as you described me is your problem. I will run for office as many times as I wish. Because I can. This is America, not Beiging, not Iran or Irag. Democracy flourishes when you actually participate. I am not ashamed of being 65 years old and want to participate in my community. I am also proud of the fact that as a cancer survivor that I am physically able to do so. You that demonize everyone and everything in this town and county have never and will never register to vote or run for public office which takes guts and since you choose to criticize under a false name guts would not be your strong suit. So all of you out there that think I should give it up. You can kiss my butt.

It is important on how many votes a candidate receives even if they are running unopposed. Recall of a board member is determinant on the number of signatures of registered voters from the member's district on the petition.

Show more of your ignorance- you completely missed the point. I don't have children either but pay school taxes.. I wouldn't mind if I was exempt from paying school taxes because I don't have children in school- and given the horrible state of public school systems particularly in NM, perhaps my money would be better spent somewhere else.. like in my own pocket. It takes lots of courage to put your name on a ballot and even more to stand up for what you believe is right. What have you done for your community lately besides gripe on your internet post. Perhaps a little reflection of apathy in Alamogordo. AA = Alamo Apathy.

How did I miss the point by pointing out some spelling errors?
BTW, I do volunteer for my community each month. What have YOU done for your community lately?

Just curious; did you run for the position? Gonna guess that answer is a resounding 'no'.

The hypocrisy of your post is palpable.

Welcome to the friendliest place on earth. Isn't that what the billboards say? You would never know it by reading some of these blogs. I think everyone should turn off the smashmouth hate radio that is played all day long in Alamo, and stop and think about what we are repeating of what we hear, or trying to attack what we may disagree with. The radio talkshow hosts and the so called news readers on cable know how to rile up the masses, write senseless books, and they are laughing at all of as they desposit their huge salaries in the bank. We are all suckers for buying into their garbage. I think we should spend more time researching information on issues that we are concerned with, and not accepting opinions from talkshow or cable so called news readers. Most opinions are based on someones agenda, and they may say anything to further that agenda, right or wrong. I would like to see how many can discuss/debate an issue without the name calling, labeling, or hate speech. We always hear that it is okay to disagree, but we don't have to be disagreeable.
