Part time council members don't deserve benefits but Penn would cry if the money wasn't put back in the budget. Remember this when you vote

The budget was a mess and the council had to use 500,000 in reserve funds to balance the budget, and the council restores the benefits the mayor had eliminated. I agree they should not get any benefits at all

I think its funny how council benefits was the ONLY thing that the mayor could find to cut in a budget of 20 million!

The mayor has tried to cut it two years in a row. Council benefits and insurance are 30,000 less than each individual magistrate. Magistrates also take raised for training and yearly, council did not.
so what

Isn't it a violation of the city ethics ordinance to vote for something that gives direct benefits to a council member? If so how could this be legal. Penn and Tackett get more than anybody else

no they shouldnt get their benefits back and the mayor should cut more from the budget and quit spending more than we have and quit depending on toyota for all the citys problems they didnt create the problems and they shouldnt have to fix them
if the council members need more benefits do what everyone else does and get another or better job
you try to become a council member to help make better decisions for the city and not for pay or benefits if thats the reason they are a council member then we need to vote them out they arent here for the city they are here for themselves
so any member that supports getting the benefits back will be the ones i will not vote for next election and so should everyone else
its like stealing from us and i dont like council members taking my money putting it in their pockets

WOW! Some idiot on Topix trying to slam Penn. There's a shocker! Whether that happened or not, it seems to have had full support of council! Stupid move for the mayor anyway.

So, with that logic, no council member could ever vote on a budget.....

They could vote on a budget but they couldn't vote to give themselves benefits

Legally there is no difference in voting on benefits and a pay increase. Therefore with your "logic" they either wouldn't be able to get paid, or couldn't vote on the budget. Either way, challenging it from a legal standpoint is idiotic.

There is most certainly a difference - salaries for elected officials cannot be altered during their term in office except for CPI increases.

What does that have to do with the legality of council voting on them?

Still can't see how someone on the council that has filed bankruptcy can vote on fiscal matters anyway.

It's hard to believe that These FuckSticks get the amount of benefits that they do!!!!
All they ever do us argue and talk about shit!!!
They never seem to go anywhere, except backwards!!
Take for instance this ordeal with the Fire Department running the Ambulance in the City Limits. The town I used to live in operated in that fashion, as well as many others around the country, and by watching the "Circle Jerk" they call a "Council Meeting" the Fire Chief had some pretty good information supporting his request.
Then, just a week or so ago, the County Judge (if that's what ya wanna call him) burst in to the Council Meeting raising hell about the issue and, just like that they call it quits?????
Well, not all of them, a few agreed to still support it. I can't believe that one of them, or the Mayor didn't tell that old fucker to go suck a cock!!!!
What dumb asses!!!!
It's probably better to let it stay the way it is, cause I sure as hell would not want none of those fuck tards making life saving decisions for me!!!!
Vote for Pedro !!!!!!
