I would like to know how a Volunteer Fire Chief without a Fire Science Degree, any full time Fire Department experience, nor being a Paramedic could truly be the best candidate for a professional position such as this. Sounds to me like he created the position for himself and the City leaders bought into this without looking at statistical facts. This should open up the eyes of the Waukee taxpayers who expect the utmost professionalism for what they pay for. This is ridiculous and shows that City leaders just do what ever they want to do and when they want to do it. I hope this opens up the eyes of the public to get involved! This behavior needs to be stopped.

I AGREE. THE THING WITH THE CITY OF WAUKEE IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE RAKING IN ALL KIND OF MONEY AS THEY NEVER STOP GROWING, THEY ARE EXTREMELY CHEAP. I MEAN AS BIG AS WAUKEE IS I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ONLY PAY EMPLOYEES FROM $13 TO $17 AN HOUR. AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED THATS RIDICULOUS. NOBODY THAT LIVES IN WAUKEE COULD AFFORD TO LIVE ON THAT. SO HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY ONLY PAYING THAT MUCH.

Nothing worse than small town politics. In New Jersey this story would not even be picked up on the radar screen. They do far worse things on a daily basis. People such as yourself should be pro active and attend a council meeting and voice your concerns as well as sending letters to your local newspapers.

I would like to know where you received information that the new Waukee Fire Chief is not qualified for the position! You couldn't be more wrong! Did you miss the part where he has been a comitted member for over 16 years?! OR that he has been in the role of Chief and or assistant chief for over 6 years? You obviously do not know the type of dedication and intense training that all of the volunteers must go through! They are constantly training and learning every week and must take several classes and meet qualifications to become a firefighter whether it is volunteer or otherwise! The same is true for the medics that volunteer their time to help others- they must take several classes and trainings to become medics. Clint may not have a "paramedic" degree but he has EMT-B qualifications and YEARS of experience. There was another "Fire Chief" hired a few years ago after several candidates were interviewed... this person had the qualifications you speak of and was unable to do the job successfully. Clint Robinson rose to the challenge and has done an amazing job for the department. This job was not created by Mr. Robinson, he simply is the best candidate and works best with the rest of the members on the department. You and everyone else should be thanking Clint Robinson for his hard work and dedication for this department for over 16 years... Have you ever volunteered and sacraficed your days, nights and weekends away from family to get nothing in return? The real Heros in my opinion are the men and women who give of themselves to help others in some of the most difficult of circumstances- the VOLUNTEERS! It is about time that he is compensated for all of his efforts and leadership to handle a job of this magnitude... So as a fellow citizen put your mind at ease the Waukee Fire Chief- Clint Robinson is the best man for the job!

I agree with Concerned Citizen as I believe that a City with the wealth of Waukee should provide the tax payers with the best bang for the buck. We should all be grateful for what the Chief has done over the years however is he really the best man for the job and wage? The Waukee fire department obviously has had its own turmoil regarding any one of the full time staff members and the simple fact is this "if you aint part of the good ol boy club you wont make it". I do not believe for one minute that the Waukee Fire Department is operating at its full potential and the reason for this is the good ol boy syndrome. I also very seriously question why several very good recent full time staff FD members have left the department but yet at the same time a fairly new employee has recent charges against him for firing a gun at his girlfriend and yet remains fully employed. Jennifer I ask you this... What would a professional Chief do in this situation? I can answer this question for you by referring you to the Clive Fire Chief. Likewise I understand your concern but do believe that your thoughts are biased as well due to your relationship to the Chief. No hard feelings just my opinion.

I would like to know what the application process had listed as requirments and if Chief Robinson met all of the requirments as were outlined. Likewise the City of Waukee is not a Civil Service community therefore why did they waist the time and money of others who did meet the requirments and who travled to the City of Waukee for the interview process. I personally believe there is more involved. You be the judge.
