An empire of US military bases

There are 101 comments on the rt.com story from Feb 15, 2011, titled An empire of US military bases. In it, rt.com reports that:

The United States boats hundreds of military bases around the world, perhaps even thousands. But, no one knows for sure because even the Pentagon does not bother to keep track.

Historian and journalist Nick Turse explained, “What I’m relatively sure of is that there are no less than 1,077 US bases or sites in foreign countries….and likely there are many more than that, we just can’t be sure.”

What is known is that the US Defense budget is now about the equal to military spending in all other countries combined, and since 9/11, military and security expenditures have soared 119 percent.

RT attempting more propaganda with a crapload of shitty journalism?

there was a MAP with all the bases available ONLINE a year or two ago.

Defense budget has "soared 119 percent" because US went into TWO WARS since 9/11

and unlike Russian bases, US bases in non-conflict regions KEEP PEACE, CONTRIBUTE TO THE REGION, and actually HELP THE LOCALS. and guess what else? they're LEGAL by LOCAL LAWS

The US is way too involved in the world. Why do we have 35,000 soldiers in Germany? The same in Japan. Who are we defending them from that they can't defend themselves? Ultimately it makes us look like bullies. Also, I don't want to pay for it with my taxes. Germany will be fine without us. If Iran attacks them we can ship over there.

Coolncrazy is just at wits end because russia has nothig to defend, so AS JEALOUSY, HE BRINGS THIS UP ON A RUSSIAN FORUM. Instead of on the American forum. haha.
But when you are the greatest superpower in the world, I guess we need these bases to protect our national inteests. Such it is.
Russia has been involved in a shooting war on it's own land and country for decades. Thousands of casualities on russian soil. With no sign it will ever stop. Russians lose more dead to these terrorists on their own soil than NATO losses in a year in active combat in Afghanistan. If russia can not even stop an on-going war in it's own country, it certainly has no need for any "forign bases".
A third world country like russia simply does not need bases. It does not have much worthly of protection. ha.

Why? They make good money. They have jobs. Did you lose your bar job? The local farmers and food producers make money selling to the bases. The shops make money. The food joints make money. Clothing store make money . The towns make money on taxes. This provides more services for the people, and also eniches them.

Americans must keep their military industry strong. They are a good customer when we sell them SAKO rifles and other fun stuff.

How ever another Rauma-Repola episode would not be tolerated. What we do or don"t do with the russians is our personal business. Yanks have no say in that.

I must be protected. I am a big fraidy cat. Everyone scares me. I will live in my bunker and hope that my government will kill everyone that scares me before they have a chance to rule the world. I don't mean the current government, I mean the real government. The one that's as nervous as I am about all those scary things in the world that might hurt me. Even words scare me. Words are reason enough to attack. Why wait?

You seem to be burdened with problems. Per your post, you noted "Poor bar girls". Now what did that have to do with the other persons post? Military bases bring money and employement to the local economy. You seem to disagree. You mentioned bar jobs, so apparently either your wife or daughter has been a bar maid and gets a poor pay. Why else would you even mentioned it.
I have no daughter, pal.

Sound like a shallow thinking libertarian. Do that , and China and russia will quickly fill the void and bring the USA to it's knee. You are really an ostrich who puts his head into the sand.
