Funny how Boeing claims many operations are "portable" - nothing could be further from the truth.
Wing spans are machined on gantry lines - upwards of 150 ft. long - there is no such commodity as a portable gantry.
They are trying to recoup the fact that the original 777 was over 5 1/2 years behind launch - and a total redesign of the fuselage was required after the first attempted launch, which I was privy to be part of.
It was landed immediately after take off - over 3 1/2 years behind initial launch, which was to have happened in 2007.
Skilled machinists needed to perform the work required do not exist in North Carolina - which is why the building there is simply an assembly facility, nothing more.
And in the article, Boeing claims ticket prices are half what they were 20 years ago?
Show me where! Or anyone that flies on a regular basis.
