Mute swans on the on West Reservoir in Portage Lakes in 2012. Residents say they can find only three of the large birds alive after the Ohio Department of Natural Resources euthanized nine adult birds earlier this summer under a statewide Mute Swan Action Plan to control the non-native swan's population.

Mute swans suck. They're aggressive toward other natural species, aggressive toward humans, excessively territorial, and downright useless. Kudos to ODNR for taking action against this noxious weed of a bird.

Maybe with the mutes gone, we can get some trumpters back in the area. THAT would be something to see.
