Craigslist-based Prostitution House closed in Prince George's County
April 8, 2009 CLINTON, Maryland (TMT)
Authorities quickly and quietly moved in on a known house of prostitution in Southern Prince George's County today, and the occupants were evicted. The occupants, who were being actively pursued by neighbors and property owners in the area, were tossed out on the street with scattered belongings being placed on the front lawn.
The property, located off Woodyard Road and less than 1000 feet from Clinton Grove Elementary School, is owned by Lillie Taylor of Washington, DC. Neighbors say that despite repeated noise complaints and notifications of criminal activity to Ms. Taylor and authorities for over a year now, there had been no activity towards removing the tenants until just last week, when it was discovered that the tenants were operating a prostitution ring facilitated by the popular classified advertisement website, Craigslist.
"We noticed less traffic in and out of the home, and the ring-leader's vehicle hasn't been seen in a week, so we knew something was going on.", said Gerald Butler, who owns a home just down the street. "We're ecstatic that somebody finally had the good sense to see that we will not tolerate this neighborhood becoming another statistic in Prince 'Ghetto' County.", he concluded.
"They had room numbers posted on every door, a 3 foot 'tip' jar located at the home's entrance, and the whole place was filled with rotting garbage. The smell alone meant that I had to pay my crew extra to clear it out.", remarked the manager of the firm contracted to remove the property from the home. "I've never seen anything like this in a suburban setting. I can only imagine the clientele that such a place would attract."
Neighbors now are focusing on cleaning up the neighborhood, encouraged by this latest development. A neighborhood watch is now planned, and neighbors have already targeted such known drug trafficking areas like the dead-ended Salima Street, which has a clear view of the Elementary School.
"We still have much work to do.", noted Thomas Anderson, who lives two doors down from the property. "We know there are several houses in the neighborhood which are engaging in disruptive criminal enterprise, illegal group homes and other activities that we intend to stop immediately. Greenfield Estates will never again turn a blind eye to such outrageous behavior."
