Hello, My Husband and I are relocating to Manassas VA from Buffalo NY due to a job offer. Our problem is finding a place/town/city to live in that is not so expensive but that is close to his job in Manassas. I tried looking on a map but its not really any help. We dont want to be in the middle of nowhere neither. Any input, ideas, Suggestions, photos would be greatly appreciated. Oh and our move is coming soon as he got the offer this past Friday and want him to start Monday. Thanks

Well, welcome to the area! Could you please be a bit more specific? What do you mean by "not so expensive" (what is your price range)? How far is your husband willing to commute? Are you looking for a single family home? Townhome? Apartment? Any special needs?

We live in Bristow and we love it! Single family homes seem to go from about $500,000+ around here, you might find a few under $500,000... It is a very close drive to Manassas.

You can find some homes right now in Bristow under 500 K, and they are a 10 minute drive to Manassas

Here are a few links, all in good neighborhoods, from 550 down-

Ignore Raphel's comment, Never heard of anything like that happening here. There are some sketchy parts of Manassas, but there are places like that everywhere! Just look on Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow

Yes, Ignore Raphel's comment. I have never heard of that. Have you moved yet? I have lived in the Manassas Area since 1992 (transplant from Corning, NY). Housing can be a shock - my brother lives in Buffalo and just bought a house for under $150K that is very nice. I also live in the Bristow area and work in Manassas. My commute is 7 minutes. Even though our house is currently for sale (we are building another), we love the area and plan to stay another 20 years. By moving we may add 15-20 minutes to the commute.

Hello - we're getting ready to sell our home in Manassas. Are you still looking for a place? It's a 4 bdrm, 2.5 bath on over half an acre. Nice well established neighborhood, screened in porch, new ac/roof/water heater, etc. Let me know if interested and I can send pix.

Stay in Buffalo. Manassas Sucks!!! It's over run with hispanics, traffic here is insane, housing is way overpriced. I have watched this town quickly going down his over the past serveral years.

Hey Shannon......welcome to Virginia!!! Im from Buffalo too......and while Buffalo looks mighty good to me on some days.....if you're gonna move.....well, this is a fantastic time to buy. Take a look at my neighborhood......near Dale City.....called Westwind Forest....find Westwind Drive on 'driving directions' and you can get a mini mansion for about $300-400.....three are on the market now......and if you are kinda bigoted, this is not a nice place. Latinos are wonderful people....its the crybabies here that are the troublemakers!

Welcome to Virginia! In Manassas there are MANY foreclosures due to sub-prime, interest only 3yr. arms that were issued 2-3 years ago. The arms are now maturing and in most cases, mortgage payments are increasing by several hundreds of dollars, thus home owners are "bailing out". You need to check out the neighborhoods THOURGHLY. Good luck.

I've been living here in Manassas for close to eleven years now & it's NOT that bad...sure the traffic can get bad on route 234 during rush hour but the crime rate isn't atrocious.

Now do you want to see a neighborhood that has gone down the crapper? look no further than the Bailey's X roads area of Fairfax county.Prior to moving here to Manassas in the fall of 96 my neighborhood in Bailey's X roads was beginning to become a gang ridden dump, which was one of the primary reasons for moving out here in the first place.

Thanks for the reality check Mike....and MS-13 is horrible and scary.....but in 1996...i bet it wasnt MS-13 that caused you to move to the Pricne William area.......One of the many reasons that our Police Chief Deane hesitates about any 'roundups' including constitutionality (police cant pick and chose who to go after), is that the Latinos........95% of whom are decent hard-working people.....will have no one to turn to ecept gangs for protection. And what is damn scary is the school situation.........where kids need to go to gangs for that kind of protection. if you can ever get a copy 0f the movie......WWest Side Story" from thee 60s - is being replayed here 50 yers later!!

I know,I used to reside in Baileys X roads from 1982 till 1996 & the neighborhood wasn't always like that.It only started going downhill due in part to the increase in gang activity beginning in the early to mid 90's.

Now I've heard of a few incidents of gang activity in some areas of the city, but for the most part the area of Manassas that I'm in<the Sudley Manor area> is still relatively peaceful.Let's just hope it stays that way for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of rednecks man have we got the most annoying redneck neighbors living across the road from us.

You can tell they're rednecks alright because their truck has got at least five or six different colors on the thing<clearly they cobbled the body work together from mismatched parts LOL> & sometimes when they're out in the front yard they have a habit of being pretty god dang loud as well.

My co-workers many years ago used to make fun of me living in dale city saying that a status symbol there is the number of cars up on blocks in the front yards!!! Speaking of which, one of the problems the Board of Supervisors could have addrssed, for everyone's aafety is overcrownding by immigrants and many other people who cant afford housing -- so there are fire hazards and health issues......now that is an issue that everyone could agree on........we need to get it fixed asap.....but no, the two dummeis that orchestrated this mess are simply lookign for re-election headlines!!
