Porn mix-up gives has Cliff parents outraged

Full story: Silver City Sun-News

Cliff High School students studying World War I history were instead exposed to a few seconds of pornography last week when they were shown a film on the Paris 1919 Treaty of Versailles that had been recorded over a porn tape.

How sad. What a bad case of recycling gone awry. Did you know there are perfectly good educational materials at the Silver City Public Library that you can rent for a week? I'm sure they'd make considerations for school uses.

There go those Disney editors again! What's really a shame is that the school still shows VHSs instead of DVDs :P

It's not that it was done on purpose. This is to highlight was happens when a teacher is careless. The stock answer "get over it" is just a cop out from addressing the real issue. The school has to investigate this, and parents have every right to be upset. At least these families are enegaged in their children's welfare and demand answers. If more parents were concerned about their kids, we'd have less problems in this country.

I am sorry for everyone. I believe that the teacher is very very sorry for the mistake.
A good lesson will come from this. Every one needs to be accountable, and by reading the article, it appears each one involved is taking the appropriate steps for corrections. This my friends, is good government.

There is not anyone that thinks this was "ok". That being said I am in disbelief what a few parents are trying to make this out to be. In case you haven't looked around lately life is not perfect and things happen. As long as something is learned from this and it is addressed so that it never happens again, I think all of you folks need to move on.

None of this kids are going to be affected for life because of this as you would want someone to believe.

You, without sin, cast the first stone- or have you already done that?

Well in this day and age why use an old VHS tape when DVDs and BlueRay are very inexpensive. If we didn't live in such a pure socity the video wouldn't be such a big deal. On the other hand (no pun intended) Instead of teaching our kids about war past present and future just maybe if we did show a video all about sex and teen pregnancy it may save a few unwanted babies. But that's ok we will still keep telling them that Masterbation leads to blindness and hair on their palms.

I just heard on the radio the great job the kids, boys and girls, are doing in basketball. These kids are good stuff and can handle obstacles. Sure, there is alot of snickering and remarks about it amongst them, but it soon will pass, too. These kids have alot of clout and high self esteem. Parents, fix it and let it go.

Or, it might make a few more of them.

C'mon, it's not like high school students don't know about masturbation. In fact, I'm surprised any children get born in Cliff given all of the mental masturbation that goes on there.

Not that I'm condoning the incident, but how was the teacher careless? The ONLY player that showed the clip was the one in the classroom? Was the teacher expected to try every player in the school before showing a VHS that he may have thought was recorded over? Did he know it was recorded over? How was he careless? Is he to view every second of every tape he has, or gets, in every player in every school he is assigned to (he was a substitute) before he shows it to a class?

Like I said, I'm not condoning the event, but he was hardly careless. If you're going to record porn, don't use the tape for anything else. If you want to record over any VHS tape, demagnitize it, first.

My solution to this whole problem is don't watch porn, in the first place.

As if high school kids had never seen porn before! I'm sure the teacher didn't mean for this incident to happen, and I heard that he went straight to the principal and reported it himself.

Kids better learn that life isn't perfect and stuff happens. They will laugh about it for awhile and then something else will happen to get their attention and this incident will be forgotten.

I agree with the guy who said, "Get over it." There are far worse things happening in our world today.

Is this really a big deal? I think those yocals finally got something to talk about...period!

As a teacher we use whatever resources we can, Its obiously a situation where there was a glitch in technology or lack of.

It would be different if there was a good twenty minutes of hardcore action.

But quite frankly The Dick in Dick Pool is more offensive.

After reading your post I have to ask if you are the "teacher" I heard about when I lived in Gila, New Mexico for six months. This was about twenty years ago.
During this time there was a story going around about a special ed teacher having sex with her student at the school.

Why was I not surprised when I read this article, and your post?

Yes, an investigation should be done. By all accounts in the article, Mr. Pool swiftly moved in and looked into every aspect of the incident short of going to the teacher's home to see his VHS collection which, oh yeah, would have been illegal. That said, I've heard this teacher has had some other problems with the curriculum he has imposed in the classroom. As it is second hand information, I don't want to spread rumor. Maybe the fact that there is this rumor has more to do with the parents pushing for dismissal than just this incident by itself.
