This is an example of why our country is so screwed up.... virtually no consequence or accountability. He should serve time in prison.

He is known to us as " Little Maxie " and I can assure you he isn't sorry for what he did- only sorry he got caught.

A few years back he was caught killing a deer, out of season on Phelps Dodge property. He has a long history of breaking the law.

If he truly has a job-I doubt he won't have it long. I know a couple of weeks ago he went 2 or 3 days and didn't call in and didn't show up.

Mr.Max Peru is definitely not smooth! This kat should be serving time in a jail or prison cell. The New Mexico justice system is a joke.

The offender got away with probation. Where was the community that was harmed when he was sentenced? Did one or two people show up thinking that would work to get him a maximum sentence. Cliff residences should have made a showing that they wanted justice, and not waiting for somebody else to do it. They only have themselves to blame for the probation, they dropped the ball.

I can't believe this crazy County i live in...15 years is way too harsh for a man who has paid back the money and pays child support ..Justice should be that he is on probation and also that he has to live with the shame of committing the crime in such a small town..he also has to live with the family shame of his relative being a registered sex offender..let's not ruin the life of his child, the next generation, by taking away its papa to jail...why give a man 15 years for theft and let murderers go free..Come on Francesca -I think u r losing sight of Justice- I think u are a man hater and want to see any man go to jail for any reason..YOU need to reevaluate whether you should really run for DA or whether your time would better be spent taking care of your family...just saying ...i think her comments on the case were over the top...I think that the Cliff School students need to know there are penalties for doing crime but that they be just and fair ones...15 years seems absurd and would cost the county way too much to house another inmate for 15 years..Jeez Louise....more cheez wiz please....

did the person selling him the stolen goods get caught?
maybe the DA should have included that as a plea bargain to put another criminal away.

Time for a new judge. What are the chances any of the restitution will be paid? He definitely doesn't need to be talking to the kids at Cliff School telling them what he got away with.
Has any criminal ever changed his ways when he was allowed to get away with what he did?

You're a moron!! However, a perfect example of how Grant County is so screwed up. Liberal judges and a liberal DA have caused Grant County to become a breeding ground for meth and criminals. Max Peru is a criminal.....always has been and always will be. Enjoy your crappy little county.

I have to agree with this person! Mr.Peru should have been given at least a month in jail for his actions.

15 years from now- he will have committed many more crimes- he will not change- I know him well.
The message sent by the Judge is bad boy bad boy but oh well it's still ok for you to steal
As for his child support being up to date- maybe it is right now- but it is the first time since this young man was born it was up to date- and I'd bet most anyhing I have that come next month he is behind on it again- he is a loser and stillo a thief

think he should have to do some jail time-just not 15 years!! this is a crappy county and the folks in Cliff are good people mostly..he needs to pay for his actions but 15 years seemed excessive -maybe a year? financial restitution...but we have bigger fish to fry here in Grant County -missing persons, 5 unsolved homicides..Get with it Silver City PD and Sheriffs dept...

Clearly the person you responded to didn't blame the community for the crime He just said that the community should have put on more of a victim's face at the trial. The person who responded below said they didn't have the time. I guess there are more things important than justice. If the Girl who had sex with the Cobre janitor had showed up at sentencing the janitor would have got more time. It said so in this News Paper.
