There is something very unique and special about Steely Dan...about the precise blend of blues-jazz-rock and vocals....I grew up on Zeppelin, but loooooved Fagan/Becker and their craft.....

It was that precise blend that makes much of their music timeless, not sounding dated when played today. I too grew up on Zeppelin and saw them in the Spring of 1970 at the Philadelphia Spectrum just as their third album was making the rounds. Saw Steely Dan in 2003 in Palm Beach and they were terrific, always surrounding themselves with superb musicians. They have their own distinct sound in the music and vocals that sets them apart as classics in the music world.

I mentioned in some previous posts how Jerry Lewis would select great music to be used in his films. Here is Jerry Lewis in a scene performing a typewriter skit in the 1963 movie: WHO'S MINDING THE STORE

"The Typewriter"

written by

Leroy Anderson in 1950 and originally performed by the Boston Pops

There was also some audience participation during the Steely Dan show I saw in Palm Beach when the band played Hey Nineteen.

Petula Clark had such a great voice. We all know her greatest hit, Downtown.
