this is great news for the everglades; something the governor got really right; for once, the interests of US Sugar and the Everglades coincided.

Isn't it funny how this deal went from a "Save the Everglades" deal to a scaled down real estate transaction? Thanks Crist- We'll remember this at the polls during your run for senate! Jeb Bush part 2- worthless!!!

Well lets see
Economic stimulus package ???
lets just close up the entire united states and buy everything from foreign countries. Lets forget that the agriculture industry is what florida was originally. and lastly the glades will be still polluted from development in Dade and Broward counties. ALL their runoff water flows west into the glades and is 100 times more toxic than the ag fertlizers in use by the sugar company.
See if they buy all the developed land west of 441 for that restoration project???

When you gripe about the farmer, PLEASE dont speak with your mouth full.
PS- the high grocery prices are for those foreign products - It costs $$$$ to get them here!!!!
Uh Oh

Water dopes you mean. Why do we have water managers? This resource belongs to the people for it is the people that supports these idiot managers.

Groceries are expensive because we are buring corn (ethanol) in our automobiles instead of feeding it to livestock. We need to take down the trade barriers that ban cheap sugar and ethanol from Brazil. Let American farmers grow something people want, instead of collecting endless billions in agricultural subsidies!

So far the comments represent the rampant ignorance that is nested in SFL. This is a revised version of a bail out, in exchange for contributions (you'll see), and the non-represented tax payers footing the bill. This is not about farmers and crops, and saving the everglades which might be all undersea in 100 years, this is about helping corporation cash out, before the administration goes over to Democrats on the next election. Pushed by a bunch of political "afficionados" which do not represent the interests of the Tax payers, since they are not elected, but rather appointed (guess in favor of what the water board will vote?). I bet that G-Crist will get contributions to his Senatorial campaign from these US Sugar people. Folks we need to realize that GOP now stands for Government Of the rich People.

The SFWMD does it again and the only thing "sinking like a rock" (famous G Christ quote about insurance rates)is the cash in your pocket.

The Everglades will be "playing it again Sam" for a long long time since the money hole is dry....

We can watch US Sugar make a pile of money with all these new bailout monies and watch the Everglades DIE

At the true bottom of the real estate market (which we haven't hit yet), eminent domain should be used to buy this land at a rock bottom price. The attempts to get this deal through now are to pay Charlie Crist's Senatorial Campaign Backers as close to top-of-the-bubble prices as possible.
