What to Look For
Knowing what qualities to look for in art prints is important, especially for those people who have a strict decorating budget. Many people choose art prints for their aesthetic value alone without ever considering the background on which the art print is set. Some materials used in designing art prints may not be as long-lasting as others. For example, art prints set on heavy paper such as card stock can look attractive, yet they may not hold up as well over time and become yellow with age. They may also have a greater tendency to warp more quickly than other materials when subjected to elements such as humidity.
Although all art prints should be kept in areas that are as environmentally controlled as possible, there can still be times when art prints are exposed to elements such as extreme temperatures, humidity, and light that cannot be avoided. For this reason, it is a good idea to look for art prints that are set on a canvas background, preferably one that is constructed of 100 percent cotton.
