Gee Happy,
Did you get a ticket? Were you speeding through Charleston? If you don't like Charleston, MOVE. If you don't like driving through Charleston, GO AROUND IT. It's that simple.

they are such jurks,(not all of them mind you, there are some realy good cops hear}. i have lived in this county all my life, and it is the worst. i see peaple pulled over all the time , but when i call to complain that the truck drivers at the loves are not stopping for the sign, i get told thatthe will do somthing about it, all that happens is you see the cops pulling peaple over in cares a few feet from the spot i talked about, not a truck driver one, if you are going past the love in charlston watch out
loves is not in the city limits of charleston. so the charleston police dept does not have anything to do with it.

Police Chief Hank Hayden thinks he and his police officers are above the law. When you have police officer's violating the rights of drivers by stopping drivers and searching cars without the driver's consent. When you complain to the chief he says they can search cars when ever they want. He needs to read the 4th Amendment. I hope one day someone files a law suit on him. It will serve him right!!!
You need to research the fourth amendment and learn a little bit about search and seizure. Vehicles are expemted from the fourth amendment. Their ability to go mobile exempts them, all an officer needs is a mere suspicion and he has the right to search. So says the U.S. Supreme Court. Oh you shouldnt mind being searched if you have nothing to hide

well your wrong there
reasonable suspicion is what it takes to make the stop..
to search there are 4 ways 1. consent 2. warrant 3 <what you were thinking of> probable cause . which is plain sight, smell.. dog alert ect. 4. inventory subject to arrest.
As for the Chief and his attitude i dont know the man, but what did you expect when you bring in a Chattanooga cop and make him chief.
The jail cells someone was complaining about.. they have not been used in decades for anything other than office space, storage, and sometimes back before Cleveland animal control.. to put dogs in .. they haven't held a person since the 50's so whats the point with that?
Just like all small towns in that area.. The biggest problem is the ... say it with me.... the c i t y m a n a g e r ... thats who the chief answers to and pulls the strings, and who hires and fires. and if you disagree with the chief or city manager your gone plain and simple. They have black balled many good police officers over the years who got their start in that small town. sad... really sad.. but the same can be said for benton , copperhill, and etowah ..........

whoever said just leave or go around charleston was right---look at the stores and drive in closing--I for one will not spend one more dollar in this town and I hope others will join me--Yes I did get a ticket there, I don't know what for but I guess I'll have to pay it--I guess when theres not enough tax base for their salary the money has to come from somewhere .Charleston needs to disband and let Bradley County take care of their services or rise taxes and recruit officers that this isn't the only job they can find. BYPASS CHARLESTON spend your dollars in non speed trap towns

Charleston is growing and needs better attention from Bradley County. It is time that the Hwy 11 needs to be redone. Maybe some of the new companies coming in will help more. But watch out for some nosy neighbors on Golden Maple Trail NW - some are literally crazy and needs to be put up in the mental ward.

Hubby and I personally know Hayden and he is a fine man. No, I don't live in Charleston but I know his work ethic, honesty and integrity. Sounds like Charleston is well taken care of, would rather have that than things running amuck. If Hayden reads this, Ralph says hello, Jan too.

Most cops are low life trash that have no ambition in life. They just want to ride around in cop cars and have power over people they other wise wouldn't. Most were snotty nosed little brats that couldn't take up for themselves in school so now they have a badge and are on a power trip.

I followed one of the Charleston cops out the "Bowater Road" yesterday. He lives in Etowah on Tennessee Ave beside the rescue squad building and drives the patrol car back and forth to work. He failed to come to a complete stop when he came to the intersection at 411 Hwy. I took pictures of him after that where he was running 69 in a 45.(Yes, I had to speed also to see how fast he was running) I have a picture of my speedometer and the back of his patrol car. That is one of the reasons I HATE cops! Now if any one else had been running that much over the speed limit in Charleston he would have given them a ticket. But because he is a cop he is above the law. That guy should be fired!
