Corporate Greed Profile: Lowes CEO, Robert A. Niblock

There are 113 comments on the www.lowesceo.com story from Nov 22, 2009, titled Corporate Greed Profile: Lowes CEO, Robert A. Niblock. In it, www.lowesceo.com reports that:

THE HUMANITY!!!!!

In the bizarre world of corporate greed and selfishness that has come to define our times, Robert Niblock saw his income go UP 11% at the same time Lowe's income fell by 22% and our economy teters on the brink of a depression.

The top brass at Lowes were fully aware that 2008 would be a disaster so they decided to base their pay on easily achievable low-ball targets.

$6.6 million AND a private Jet Mr. Niblock made $6.6 Million Dollars last year while employees were laid off and their stock price fell through the floor. To add insult to injury, private Jets are mandated in his contract for safety, health and security reasons. Just like the Auto Industry, Lowes has yet to figure out that its executives can fly first class at a fraction of the price and save thousands of jobs a year for hard working people who are the back-bone of the company.

Food and bills come first. I'm in the same boat. How do I tell my family that everything now has to change? It's sad. With the schedule it's going to be hard to find a second job. I have to do something, either the house or the truck has to go.

Thank you! I wish you & your family the best. I truly hope it does not come to that for you.

20 years as a sales professsional; the last 11 with Lowes: 5 years ago they said "so sorry" when they didn't put matching funds in our 401K's after being busted by the government for illegal pay and overtime practices. Last year they "restructured" bonus potential (mine went from $6000 to $1200 to "make it fair" for everyone (then did an 'encore' by raising the targets so high no one got anything anyway). Yesterday they announced that all commissions, and sales incentives are cancelled effective this saturday...by way of compensation they'll give us 50% of the commission we made last year. For me, that means, when the math is done, I took a 23% paycut during a ten minute conversation - where a "prepared statement" was read then handed to me to sign - with no apology, no thank-you, no acknowledgement for my service, no mention of my talent, no mention of my contribution, no recognition for skill and professionalism (my file is packed with thank-you notes from Lowe's customers; and I have more than a dozen cheesy 'customer service awards' hats!) I've sold millions of dollars worth of product, saved hundreds of thousands of dollars for this company in corrected errors, developing loyalty, training people and countless other things that are not in my job description, and I have now been raped of not only my income, but probably my home: I have been fending off forclosure for over a year. Soon I'll be expected to still show up for work, for 1/4 less money for the same job I was worth thousands more for last year than this, and I'll be expected to do it even though I've lost my home. and any hope of retiring. The only question left to ask...why isn't the news media asking why Lowe's has devalued so many people: clearly they need us (or we would have been laid off like the 1700 last year at this time) they just don't want to pay us.

our meeting was today and we were told that Lowes wants to get away from "I" to "we". "We win as a team and we lose as a team." I wonder if they will divide up their bonuses equally amongst the "team"?

We all know the answer to that...NO

If we truly win and lose as a team then all bonuses should be equally shared by all, not a few.

You see the thing is, I know all yall are too scared to start a union. So I'm just going to keep taking your money, your respect, your dignity, and your family's health and well being until you do something about it. Until then, I'm going to keep sticking my hands in your pockets. hahahaha

unions are not the answer, look at what happened in the airline Ind. They had concessions and pay reductions.

Unions aren't the answer. Only make the company worse. Close more stores. They can't keep your store open.

I have read forums like this since the big announcement 2 days ago. Today marks the 1st day I have worked with no spiffs/commissions. I must say that my usual vigor and motivation are gone, totally and completely absent. I no longer have any incentive to even try to upsell, I no longer have any incentive to bring my vast knowledge (Won through years of seeling and working with vendors) to bare on sales. In other words, if they want cheap they get cheap, my goal now is to get their sale completed as fast as possible and get them away from me. Where I used to spend hour upon hour with a single customer making sure I had gotten everything they needed for their projects, I will give them 10 mins max now. Once again, no incentive to give them hours of my time, I can be drinking coffee with my saved hours now, that will be just as productive as selling. Oh wait, they stopped empolyees from getting coffee now, thats for contractors only...Dammit, they take away my coffee and 30% of my pay? what else do they want from me.?

I have given this company years of faithful service and this is the thanks i get in return? same old corporate America bullshit. I, for one, don't want to see Robert Niblock get 1/2 of his bonus, or even take a mere 30% salary cut..I want to see our dear leader get bumped down to what they expect me to feed my family on. I want him to try to pay his bills every month, pay for a kid in college (no financial aid i might add, im paying it all!)and manage to do it all on what they expect me to do it on, thats what I want to see.

Whats the future of Lowe's? Sim[ple....total ruination..2 years or less this will all be over, the doors will be closed and only birds and crickets will in habit the places we all used to make our living, the places where we have fond memories of time with friends, the places we used to be proud to say we worked....2 years or less this nightmare will end with the final shot to the head of this company, and while the top excs have their gold parachutes and millions saved to fall back on, we will once agani be left out in the cold. I'm afarid I can and wont wait for that time. My goal is to be gone in the next month, if at all possible. I wont stay and watch it die, I wont stay and be tossed out one day. I wont stay.

I respectuflly take my leave now, and turn the soap box and mic over to the next person wishing to address this most amazing forum!

Keegan,
Your also a hypocrit,(sp) and I wish you the best of luck in leaving soon.
If asked about your selling skills a month ago, you would have stated the most important thing to you was helping the customer and making sure they were taken care and got what they needed.
NOW- you can't muster up enough energy to wait on them or up sell......Well see ya later
