So, who else is NOT happy about the traffic they sat in on the first day? They need to do something. Perhaps a shuttle of some sort from a park and ride?? Any thoughts?

Have you ever sat in gridlock in Charlotte, Highway 150, I-77, or any sporting event? What did you expect for the first day of a brand new school off of 115 with 1300+ children? Today was much better. The key is to cool off, be patient, and by the end of the week all of the bugs will be worked out.

Yes Day 2 was much better. I wasn't expecting one day to have made a difference. It just made me very nervous the first day to think I would be late for work every day.
The only thing that I wish was different is having to go around the whole building with a child only in the upper school. A cut-across in the middle would be nice. I guess it's not possible though.
Oh and yes Statesville Dad, I have been in traffic too many times to count, I live off Brawley School Rd. and deal with it daily. It gets frustrating.

I agree. The traffic situation is kind of silly. I have an upper school student - only. Wish we could drop them off in the parking lot or something.

I also agree that there should be a Park-and-Ride option somewhere. Coming from Charlotte, I would more than welcome a stop at Northlake Mall!

Anyone having difficulties with any of the classes? Have your kids been given an arts focus class they didn't sign up for? Been moved around?

I live down Brawley also and we have to leave at 6:30 just to beat the traffic on Brawley then we get to school to early, well to early for them.
We are thinking of putting our child in woodland hights elem,If their not going to help out the parents who have to be in charlott at a certin time. Were not trying to break the rules on purpose,We just have to get to our jobs on time.
Some of the teachers have been very rude in the car line also and thats not good either. And yes I feel that some students have been moved around because certin parents thought the teacher wasnt good enough for their child.Plus the contacts never answer their phones Im tired of emails,give us some phone numbers we want to talk to people.

OH! So some parents are getting their kids moved around by THEIR request?

Funny....I'm simply trying to get my kid in to the classes he signed up for and kept in the classes for the teachers he met last Wednesday. I've been told that individual requests can't be filled and that my kid is getting bumped out of classes due to overcrowding!

Wasn't this school designed to hold only a certain number of kids? Weren't we told that ANY classes they wanted to take would be made available to them?

Seems some of us are getting the short end of the stick here.

Any one else want to comment?

OMG WTF I dont know how long I can do this,this is messed up. I never did get my kid today someone else got him for me.I never even made it into the parking lot. My dreams of plp are not looking good. Please plp do something. I saw road rage and accedents almost happen today . Its all just to bad.

I think they're going to start losing a lot of their students due to poor planning, poor management and very poor customer service skills.

I wish you had seen the smiles on the students faces in class and in the halls. I wish you had heard a group of 7th graders say today, "This school is really awesome! I didn't think I would like it but it is so much fun." I wish you had seen the team work when a group of parents and teachers unloaded, carried, and assembled massive amounts of furniture to save the school money it could use for start up supplies. The spirit of the staff and parents is amazing. I am sorry that the outward appearance of the traffic flow has frustrated you. I hope all parents, teachers, and students will stay positive and supportive because this school has so much to offer the students.

Mooresville Parent - I agree. The school does indeed have A LOT to offer the students - in theory. I can't wait to see it actually in practice! When's that going to happen?
Madre - no. Don't have an update really. Just hearing rumblings from other parents. I for one am very upset. My son's schedule has been changed no less than 5 times since open house. Yes you read it right - FIVE TIMES.
It's tough enough that they have a 7 way rotational schedule. Now some of these kids are having to deal with schedules getting changed after being in class for four days already.
It's ridiculous and very poor organization.

I wish you could be more patient and understanding. This is an amazing opportunity for your children. Right now it isn't about you, it is about what is best educationally for your child and you can help make it that way by being patient and supportive. We were at PLP last year, and yes, it feels like a totally different school, but so much richer, so much more diverse, so much to offer. I am looking big picture and I hope that you will too. This is the first time a school like this has happened. Give it time, give it support, give of yourself. Use your car time to talk with your children, meditate, or pray for them. They'll be off to college in a blink of an eye and you'll wish you were waiting in that carline! It will get better, things always do.

I'm not so concerned with the traffic situation. I haven't had too much of an issue. My son is in upper school so we miss a lot of the traffic trouble.

My concerns are the lack of organization when it comes to students' schedules. They weren't finalized when we came to open house and they still weren't finalized when he got to school today.

How would you feel if your upper school student had their schedule changed FIVE times in a week? You wouldn't like it either.

I'm being patient and understanding but I'm also an advocate for my kid. I am excited about PLP, but there's a lot left to be desired at the end of this first week.

Get some buses PLP give some of us hope for the future. I came to pick up my child Friday at the right time. I waited for almost two hours and tried to get into the school and was told to go past three times by the police. Dont turn parents away who may arrive alittle early just because Its not (QUOTE) their time to drop off. Just smile and say goodmorning and be glad that its one less car out of your way when the rush hits. I feel that plp is making all these rules on us and not trying to understand our postions.If Kate Alice Dunaway was late for her job every day Im sure her boss would say fix it or get a new job. We only have one more week until PLP starts counting tardys. WOW thats going to be a fun job.

I've worked in three different school systems and never seen a situation that is even close to being as positive as Pine Lake Preparatory. The staff is unified and has overcome hurdles that only a few parents have been involved to see. The students are truly amazing and happy to be there. I have seen two other schools open the first year with only three to four grade levels and they had the exact same problems that you describe. Give it time and the pieces will fall into place. The students and faculty are outstanding. Great things are ahead for this school.

Patience, please. The school is an amazing environment unlike any I or my children have been given a chance to be a part of. For those who do decide to go elsewhere, your choice, but I am sad for the children who will miss this opportunity simply because their parents are upset with traffic.
