The people demanding the change in this law (and others like it) have done a poor job in convincing me that what they are arguing is a civil rights issue. If you are of a differnt race, that is, undoubtedly the way you were born and thus your civil rights under the U.S. constitution should be and is protected. When you enter the area of lifestyle choice, a whole new dynamic is formed. Which lifestyles are protected, which ones are not? After all we have seen people (societies) make some poor choices in the past. I don't like the idea of an issue being force fed upon the population. Some of the "diversity training" happening in some schools is a good example. It appears, extreme. Come to the middle and make folks like me understand your point instead of fearing extreme ideology. Compromise is very American

You apparently haven't been keeping track of science. Sexual orientation is not a choice. Every major medical and psychological organization in the free world has made statements to that effect, and their statements are backed by sound scientific studies.
Religion IS a choice, and its also a "lifestyle", unlike homosexuality, and those who choose to adhere to a religion are protected.
Can you define for us this homosexual "lifestyle" that you seem to think exists? Can you explain to us why you think every homosexual in the world, or even most homosexuals fit into your stereotypical view of what a homosexual is? And can you tell us why you are so very interested in what other people are doing in their bedrooms? I know that I have no interest whatsoever who you choose to sleep with, unless you're sleeping with my husband.

Besides christianity is a lifestyle choice and it is protected so that argument is kind of moot.

There you go I59, jump streight to the attack. That is why people think your type of views are EXTREME, and no, science does not back up yur argument. The biological functions present only in joining a egg (from a female human) and a sperm (from a male human) is the only way for humans to procreate. Another point worth noting, YOU are the one that brought up religion not me. Then you wonder why I say the people advocting this change hasn't done a good job. You make my argument for me.

Where are you so called truth or facts? Dummy, it isn't chosen. You completely disregard anything that I have said. Did you choose to be straight? Well... If anything, Linda, you're an idiot. Completely blinded by your hate. Yes it is hate. Blindly at that. We'll see about this whole prop 8 debacle at the end. If you are basing everything on procreation, sterile hetero couples? elderly couples? etc. Hm...

Great - bigotry in my own back yard.
Check your facts buddy - in countries of the world where homosexuals can serve openly, there is no major issue, nor are their militaries laughing stocks - check out Israel and the UK for example.
And if you are looking at toughening the standards for service, why don't you start with things like criminal records, and education, and not on orientation.
Finally, homosexuality is not a life style anymore than being straight is - so unless you want me to judge you based on the vocal fringes of your orientation, don't judge me based on your perceived stereotypes of mine.

They always hold up the whole morale issue in our military even though the nations that do allow gay members to serve openly don't have an issue. Makes one think that it has more to do with how the people in our military are indoctrinated.

I brought up religion as an example of a lifestyle choice being a protected category, since you keep insisting that homosexuality is a choice.
Your rambling on about procreation is simply that; rambling. I never claimed that two men or two women could make a child without the intervention of science. You know what, neither can infertile straight couples, or couples who are past the age of childbirth.
The FACT is, homosexuality has existed on this planet since life first started to be separated sexually. Every species that reproduces sexually exhibits homosexual behaviors. In species that pair bond for life (these species are very few, by the way), homosexual pair-bonds have been observed.
And what's the "I" for?

Your insistence that homosexuality is a choice is ridiculous! For homosexuality to be a choice, it follows logically that heterosexuality is a choice as well. When did YOU choose YOUR sexual orientation, eh???? It is also logical that you would be able to choose again. So, can you choose to be gay? Today? How would you accomplish that?
Most child molestation is perpetrated by straight men. This is a fact, not a theory or an opinion. And if you're worried about your kids getting "raped," you should be keeping your eye on their peers, not on the nice gay couple that lives down the street.
It is another FACT that marriage, civil marriage, IS a right. The Supreme Court said so, and their rulings carry the weight of the Constitution. And at present, those enjoying your so-called "special" rights are NOT gay people, but married heterosexual couples. Over 1,100 rights, specifically.

I59 Your arguments are like the crook blaming the cops for enforcing the law. The only rants here are coming from you (well Linda did have one too). You spoke of other species having homo behaviors, hmm, on the farm when animals exhibit this type of behavior the other animals shun them for it and will not allow the homo animal to be part of the group. Like I said to start with, you don't do a good job convincing anyone that your view is anything but extreme. How many homo's in US? 1 mil, 2 mil, lets say for the sake of argument 3 mil. That is only 1% of the population.(US population is >300 mil) seems wierd that only 1% of the people would live this way. How curious. Like I said before, you make my argument for me. Your return with your bigger hammer is anticipated <smirk>

Actually the numbers that are accepted is between 5 and 10 percent. That would be between 15 and 30 million people in the US. Or...between .4 and .6 billion people worldwide. I would think that anyone would be a significant number of people to anyone.

1/2 the women in the military are lesbian.. So, who cares... lol ... Gays have been serving for years ... and everyone knows it. Didn't hurt anything then.... won't hurt anything now... The only thing that hurts is ignorance and people focusing on stupid crap that doesn't matter.. instead of focusing on task at hand.(whatever that may be)...

Get over it folks. Gay people are here to stay.. and are not anymore abnormal then most straight folks.

Your numbers are wrong, and funny you should bring up farm animals. You can hardly base conclusions about the natural world on the behavior of domesticated animals, now can you? You're a REAL brain surgeon, bucko. A rocket scientist, even.
