The world is overflowing with highly educated, highly qualified, experienced, English speaking doctors just waiting for a chance to come to America and lower the cost of great healthcare.
The AMA exists to keep doctors' incomes as high as possible, and their liability for their negligence as low as possible. That's why the AMA spends millions in bribes .... er ..... contributions to keep those doctors from immigrating to America.
When we "wise up" and open the immigration doors to let those hundreds of thousands of doctors in to serve used, the costs of medical care will plummet.
Till then, the artificially created "shortage" of doctors will continue and they will remain the richest folks in town.
Don't blame your average doctor for the decisions of the AMA. The number of physicians who are actually members is somewhere around 15%. The AMA is in the business of helping the AMA first, second, and last. They supported Obamacare because the AMA has become nothing but a lobbyist for their own self interests.

American medical schools are now accepting more foreign applicants than American. We all can easily figure why...American applicants are way down. A doctor shortage crisis, especially in rural areas, is upon us. Specialty services or groups in rural America will soon be a memory. Nurse practitioners are all but taking over family practice in California. A worsening major health care crisis looming. Death panels sound more real than ever.

Medicaid pays next to nothing. Doctors refuse and turn away more than you would ever imagine. Now, Medicare reimbursements are trimmed so, doctors will soon (some already) refuse medicare. Again, thanks to insurance & big pharma owning Capitol Hill, our premiums will double. With chronic disease, the spike will be greater. Private insurance companies now require (or soon will) bi-annual physical exams which monitor comprehensive labs...cholesterol, kidney function, diabtetes, weight control, lung function- smokers vs non smokers etc. If your lab values do not meet the "within normal limits" values, you'll see your premiums rise. If you are stricken with disease or chronic illness, premiums could become unaffordable, along with increasing annual deductibles, some in the $1000s & $1000s EACH year, some family plans see rhis now. If you are amongst the unlucky ones, stricken with catastrophic illness, you can be denied...once you reach your maximum of chosen plan. Then it's termed pre-existing illness. Prescriptions are the same. Some out of pocket prescriptions are unaffordable, even in generic. So say or wish what you want, American health care is ushering in big change alright. But the change is not for the better of humanity. It's for those who own Capitol Hill & the nasty little monsters we elect.

It's upon us people, already happening. I have family members already being weighed in, offered smoking cessation classes, diet plans. Receiving "warning" from their insurers. Get healthy...or else.

There is no real "shortage" of doctors in America, only an artificial "shortage" is the result of the AMA bribing politicians:

- to keep hundred of thousands of doctors from coming to America where they would cause doctors' charges and their incomes to plummet;

and

- to keep hundreds of routine drugs "controlled" to require people to pay doctors to get routine prescriptions renewed;

Allow foreign English speaking doctors into America and watch the cost of medical care drop.

Make it legal to renew all prescriptions without a doctor visit, and take the hundreds of "prescription" drugs off prescription status - and watch medical costs drop.

But, hey we have the highest paid doctors in the world - thanks to the anti-competitive, anti-capitalist AMA.

Believe what you want, IO. This is my specialty. I know what I'm talking about. You live in Oz, I live in the real world. I work & live amongst thousands of doctors, I've spoken hours and hours with some of the brightest in America. You ask them..."would you want your son or daughter to become a doctor"...8/10 will say, "NO".. I'd rather he/she become a veterinarian or an orthodontist. No beeper, no $30,000/yr malpractice insurance fees and get to enjoy holidays with the family.

Another one of your cock and bull posts.

Your argument is hollow and useless, like all your arguments.
With all the illegals coming into our country, why no doctors? Obama surely would give them citizenship.
Why no engineers, no architects, etc?

We only get the unskilled and needy illegals and Obama wants to give them free medical care.
One poster has already pointed out medicaid is failing because most doctors will not accept it. The same will hold true for Obamacare. Doctors are businessmen also and as such, will not work themselves into the poor house.

Sure, we need doctors from the caribbean with a internet diploma.

Give us some more of your bright ideas.

What are you talking about? Almost every doctor I go to is from another country. Some are very difficult to understand. Their charges for patient care are the same as anyone else. Under Obamacare even these doctors will make only what the government says what they can charge. All doctors will make the same basic rates. Patients will not be able to choose their doctors. That is the Progressive way.
I wonder what country the foreign doctors will move to next to get paid a decent salary?
I might as well move back to Mexico where I can get the same or better medical care.

How many illegals are in the U.S.?

"There are many differing opinions, resulting in some heavy argument. As they are ILLEGAL, there are no records to actually establish a number.
The LOW estimate crowd acknowledges at least 12 million, while the HIGH estimate crowd says it is more like 20 to 30 million.
Then there is a group that says that those numbers are only the recent [within say the last 30 years] ILLEGAL ALIENS. This group claims that the "old timer" illegal aliens [from 30 years and backward] may represent another 20 to 30 million [including their offspring over the years].
Again, there is NO WAY of knowing the exact numbers, but clearly and without valid argument it is in the area of at least/more than 12 to 20 million.
There are approx 10,000 total additional illegal aliens added to the United States population each day."

How many doctors does it take to attend to these illegals?

And didn't even mention what it costs to operate just 1 office. Not 2 or 3 satellite offices. People have no clue, no clue.

Now cosmetic dentistry or cosmetic surgeons may make some money... payment due upon services rendered. But, they work hard and overhead is high. So there are a few wealthy doctors. All speciality, you can bet on it.

This is what the people voted in. The people have spoken. They desire to be taken care of by the government, so the gov't will take care of them. Then we as Americans, whose grandfathers, fathers, and now ourselves paid taxes and helped to build this country, will see history repeating itself. The day will come, if history is an indicator, that the workers will stop paying taxes and revolt. Then we will be forced into wok camps and serve the gov't interests. Check out China's human and social programs, or Iran, or maybe North Korea. Laugh now, but get ready. IMHO

With the economy the way it is, I doubt the cosmetic docs are doing as well as back in the day. As you know, insurance doesn't cover cosmetic procedures. IO is completely in outer space.

I have a friend whose daughter went in labor. By the time she got to the hospital, she was very close to delivery. However, they turned her away because she had no insurance and no Medicaid. even though her mother told them she would sign the papers and be responsible for the bill, they still turned her away. That I am medially rushed to another hospital where the baby was born in the hallway. this actually happened in Florida.
I have no explanation as to how this can happen.but from what I understand, some of the smaller hospitals no longer provide child delivery services, except in emergency situations(as to who makes that call and how it is made,i have no clue).I don't think that I have ever heard of this happening before.read post #5188-it may help.the poster has worked in the healthcare business and may be able to explain.
