A Niagara Bottling manager testified Wednesday that company officials met in July 2007 with two Groveland City Council members and other city officials to discuss whether the south Lake County city was willing to sell Niagara more than 800,000 gallons of water a day.

Groveland was OK selling the water for 5+ Million but not OK with Niagara getting it themselves... what a cover up. Those Groveland folks are in for a hurting.

I do not understand how this would even be considered, whether free or for $5 million. We are constantly told that we need to conserve, that the resources are low, yet they're considering letting this company take 800,000 gallons of water per day? If most of us even water our lawn on the wrong day or even on the right day at the wrong time, we risk being cited and are given a fine. How is this even congruent?

Just because they say they want it and fill out the proper forms does not automatically entitiel them to the water. Shame on the Council for letting it go on this far, even entertaining the idea is abhorrent.

Money talks to these people doesn't it? Looks like they are looking out for themselves and not the whole community and Florida.

Are people so blinded by their hatred of a bottling company making a profit off of water, that they do not realize how much water golf courses, plant nurseries and tree farms use. And yes folks, these are for profit businesses. Why do people expect St. John’s to discriminate against Niagara? If they have met the criteria then they should have their CUP. If we expect St, John’s to deny their permit, then they should revoke all golf courses, plant nurseries and tree farms permits, since this is supposedly about water conservation. Lets go after all those companies who waste water, not single out just one.

Exactly correct, this effort is lead by the anti-plastic bottle people. This is drinking water, at least it's not wasted on yard grass!

What a tree farm or golf course is not the issue at hand so address that when it is time. Adding to the problem will not correct the problem. There is no need for more plastic bottles period and when the water is gone, there is no bringing it back. At least with yards around here the water STAYS here and drains back into the ground. When you bottle it up is is GONE forever.

Wrong. This effort is from people who are tired of St Johns approving things they shouldn't. Previous approvals of CUP's were wrong but they are in the past. This is now and it has to stop somewhere.

Boycott All Niagara Products.....before you buy that bottle/case of water look to see if Niagara bottled it....you gotta look past the Brand name at the info on the bottle to see if it is Niagara's... even better.. save yourself a lot of money...get a reusable water container...filter your own water.......why should you pay for what comes out of our land ? the profitizing of our natural resources has gotta stop.

When we water our lawns and landscape it does not all stay here as you suggest. Typical application efficiency rates are 60% percent meaning as much as 40% is lost to evaptranspiration (ET)and does not drain back into the ground. There is no ET loss in bottling the water. If I'm defending Groveland, I don't use this arguement.

THINK ABOUT IT, if the avarage South Lake home uses 20,000 gallons per month to irrigate, 8,000 gallons is lost to ET. JUST 2000 homes equals 16,000,000 gallons per month lost. Niagaria is proposing 15,000,000 gallons per month used with no ET loss. 1 million gallons less per month than just 2000 homes.

We have some serious water conservation issues in Florida but this was the WRONG battle to fight. The leaders of groups like "citizen's coalition" are arrogant and have done the County tax payers a real disservice by encouraging the County and Groveland to fight this. Much greater strides could be made if we address overall allocation based on science and fact and not the feel good emotion of hating Niagaria (the easy thing to do).

Exactly, where are citizens coalition and others in opposing CUP renewals for Clermont, Lake Utilities, etc. They won't because that would mean opposing neigborhoods like Kings Ridge, Summit Greens, Hawthorn, etc.(where most of these elitists live). No, not everyone in those neigborhoods, just some)

I agree. We need to target them all. But right now we have the SJWM trying to approve this one. Like I said, it has to stop somewhere and we can't take back CUP's that are already given. The real point of my post was that this has nothing to do with plastic haters like the previous poster says.
