I think the ratings on the schools in the area speak volumes. The teachers don't seen to be concerned about our kids and when they are concerned, its over the wrong things. I don't feel like the teachers take as much time as they should to help the kids who need it. And it doesn't matter how often you ask for help or how many people you talk to there, you just aren't going to get the results you would like. if you don't absolutely love your job and don't care about going the extra mile to help the kids who need it, then find a different job. I've never seen a school staff so unconcerned and unhelpful as what I've seen at Clendenin. Maybe its just our luck with the teachers we've had. But it's kind of odd that so many other parents i know have the same complaints.

I feel the same as the previous poster. I have since changed schools and the results have been amazing. My child is gifted and was not being challenged in Clendenin. If you truly care about your child's education transfer to a school of excellence immediately.

I was always pleased with most of the teachers at CMS, some were excellent and some were ok or tolerable. Two of my kids were easy students and always excelled. The problems I faced were with my third child and the fact that no matter how much I complained, how many meetings I attended, the 504 plan, psychologist recommendations....none of the teachers wanted to inconvenience themselves to help accommodate. Not all children fit inside the same box therefore you can't teach them as if they do....he managed to get by, but it was always a struggle, a fight and an uphill battle. One thing I found lacking was there were no tutors around here. I once got a list of people from Dunbar and So Chas. Our education system totally ignores the needs of the working parents. Then there are the teachers that didn't become teachers because they had a passion for educating children...it was just an easy degree. Or at least it was when I was in college and it was my major (until I learned I didn't like working with children all that much). Just always keep your eyes and ears open and never make the assumption your child's teacher is doing his or her job.

Wait till they get to Elkview Middle... Sometimes I'm speechless with the things my kids tell me about some of those teachers. Oh my. Cell phone use in classrooms, foul language... Big can or worms

They give too much homework!! I don't have time for an hour or more of homework each night. I pay taxes to have my child taught in school, not to try understand "new math" on my family time. I can understand maybe a half hour, no more.

homework is aa part of school and always has been. if ya dont have time to help your child learn then you are not much of a parent in the defined way of a parent. as usual someone wanst the taxpayers to pay for their babysitter

I think if our teachers was worried about our kids education as much as they are worried about everyones personal life and who kids are better then there's our kids might learn something!!

Until I've walked in their shoes? Ok. There's a difference in running our mouths and simply expressing our concerns. And if I think the person who is paid to spend so much time with my child a day isn't doing their job, then I will express my concern. All of this is how it looks to us from the outside looking in, and we have been to other schools in the area and Clendenin is the only school who has this problem. You can't be a teacher and do a mediocre job or the bare minimum and the teachers at Clendenin, and the staff, are obviously doing something wrong or this post would have never been made.

Do you work at Clendenin? What is the deal there? I won't ask who you are but some info on why it is the way it is would be nice. I understand if you don't want to say much though.

What about the worthless slugs at Elkview Middle?? Someone should start a thread on them... One thing I've noticed when my kids were in school was teachers loved the kids that made their jobs easy (the kids that can more or less teach themselves)... Any other kid was a "problem", needed meds, etc.

teachers have gave up due to poorly raised chil;dren that treats the staff like dirt. they disrupt the class if they actually come to class. if the staff trys to do anything about it, the parents rain down on the staff because there children are perfect angels. parents are the cause of they world of chidren that we live in. be an adult and accept your responsibilitys.

And do you realize a teacher cannot recommend medication for a student. It happens and I personally think that is something that needs addressed. They do not have the qualifications to recommend narcotic medication for young children. That's the problem...the disillusion that a "pill" is going to fix the problem. I wish I could do that on my job so that all my days would be dress free too. Part of being a teacher is having the knowledge of how to deal with each and EVERY child. Not just the children who never create a disturbance.

They treat the staff like crap because they took the discipline out of schools. Being back the paddle and I bet it would change. Bring back special education classes while they're at it.
