Hacker to leave Ticonderoga

Jan 3, 2013 Full story: Denton Publications 17

Hacker Boat Co. has announced it will use a $600,000 grant from the state's Regional Economic Development Council to move its operations from Ticonderoga to Queensbury, shutting down two local facilities and taking 38-40 jobs out of the community.

I think the big question here is did the state actually award a grant to help facilitate a move for a company from a depressed economic region to a more upscale region? If that's the case, it was pretty dumb of the state. If on the other hand, Hacker applied for a grant to expand in Ticonderoga and plans to use the grant for anything else, the grant should be taken away.

I agree. Someone needs to look into this. Grants are awarded for different criteria like location or socio economic culture. It does not make sense to award 600 thousand to a company to leave such a depressed area. The excuse about someone coming from Europe to shop for a boat and not wanting to travel one extra hour makes no sense. Bottom line is jobs are lost.

I agree. The Hacker factory is just over one mile away from the Ti airport. Someone from Europe who has money to waste on a Hacker would certainly be able to take a private plane into Ti. Did the Town officials and the supervisor suggest this????? Especially after dumping $$$$ to upgrade the airport.

I know of a brand new empty 120,000 sq ft facility in Ticonderoga that Hacker can move into immediately probably for a lot less than the 5.4 million dollars to move to Queensbury:

People not wanting to drive an extra hour was simply an excuse. If the boats are going to the middle east, then moving the operation to Glens Falls is another excuse. Move the operation to Egypt. The fact that this grant is being underwritten by the same organization that is supposed to be bringing jobs to Ti is worth looking into. Talk about a conflict of interest. Since hacker leadership sees no use in Ti, double their taxes on the existing buildings and look into the almost free give-away of the Newberry bullding and see if they no longer qualify for this gift

Hacker will take every freebie the poor taxpayers of New York will be forced to pay for until they someday move offshore like everyone else. Only the rats will benefit: both the two and four legged ones.

I agree! Why isn't Supervisor Malanie walking up and down the streets asking local business........"what can we do to help keep your business from leaving Ticonderoga"?. Get rid of the ENTIRE Town Board before there are no more local businesses in this town.

Look around. The people who can afford Hacker Boats would want to come to Ticonderoga why??? Exactly!

Therein lies the reason for their departure. Quite simple, really.

Why are we giving them 600,000 dollars in grants? Don't tell me Betty Little is upset they are moving to her hometown. Why do the same do nothing's end up back in office. Get out and vote people in that will work for us, not against us. Sad political leaders in the North Country. Time for new blood.

Article in this weeks times of Ti. Hacker deceived the public in getting this grant... Pride helped them to bring this to Ti & Essex county ..... Shady business practice to accept that grant & then move out of area
