Sounds to me like a lack of common sense on both sides, but he was within his rights as I understand it, even though he showed a complete lack of concern for this elderly woman. He should know better, and if the city police chief of Keene thinks so little of Keene citizens, especially the elderly, he should be replaced.

What happened to respect for the law ? Regardless of age. Our police are the authority and deserve the respect. Grandmother , needs to comply. She just showed others how the law doesnot apply to her because shes elderly ?? I thought the Elderly should show us how to respect others...mm....

I have seen posts at other web sites and most support the officer. As a retired police officer I find the officer's behaviour to be disgusting. I learned from older officers to minimize any interactions with women and children to the minimum as you most always come out looking bad. This elderly woman is from a day when it would have been unheard of to do what that officer did, we certainly live in different times. I worked in NYC and learned that some things were better not pursued and that it wouldn't affect my ability to police in the future to let some things pass. I don't like to criticise other posters, but I have to say something about what the previous poster wrote. The police are not the authority and we do not live in a police state where one can't challenge them, verbally not physically. There is no authority, there is the law. We elect people to write our laws. We hire, other times elect, the various people that work in the judicial system to provide a service. I find it worrying the support given to the police in many instances where a person or persons have been injured or worse killed and a less violent path could have been taken.

I am a retired Delaware State Police Captain after 35 years of service going up the ranks from a Trooper. What I observe is a very under trained police officer and a Sergeant at that with NO common sense and without a doubt has anger management problems. I can assure you he would have NEVER made it in the Delaware State Police. The Chief also would have never made it in DSP if he thinks this is good police work God almighty!!!

I say that cop needs his attitude adjusted by his superiors that is if they have the guts to do it.
Yes she was out of line of sorts but he was wayyyy out of line. I see that cop as a power hungry authority abuser and a complete CONTROL FREAK.

Truth be told...Keene is small enough that the officer could have followed the woman to her house. Before he stopped her - HE ALREADY KNEW WHERE SHE LIVED!

He didn't have to go that far...
