I received a letter from NSA today claiming I owe Reiman Publications $29.98 but it doesn't specify exactly what the supposed debt is for. All of my magazine subscriptions are paid in full so I don't know what this is about. There's three different addresses listed for them (one on the envelope in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, one in Old Bethpage, New York and one in Columbus, Ohio. There's also two phone numbers for them. I tried to go on their site but Mozilla said it was an unsecured site so I just clicked on the x.
I'm just going to ignore this and any other letters I get from them because this is obviously a fraud.

Super easy fix. Call 1-866-848-2121. I was connected with a representative immediately. I referenced the 5 digit ext and the ID# on the bill they sent and he made note of it immediately and apologized for the mix up. Then he also gave me the 800 number to the magazine I was disputing and that number connected me immediately to a representative there. I'm pleased that I fixed this issue in literally less than 5 min.
I waited a lot longer to speak to someone. Didn't help at all! I paid the amount of $77.48 like a darn fool! Anyway--the rep told me no info whatsoever that was useful! I do not recall renewing. Sometimes on the renewal if you don't send it back with CANCEL across it they automatically put you in the system again. That may or may not be true. Was told by someone else. Now I have to find STAR magazines phone number-Ha!

Went to mailbox today have a collection notice for a magazine I never heard of for 21.97. Don't understand how this company stays in business when they are scamming people. Going to turn it over to State Attorney General. They need to be put out of business.

I went through this same event as everyone else. I let a Guns & Ammo magazine subscription expire as my interests move on like we all do. 3 Months later - today, I received this notice. To The Internets!!! Well I find this forum amoung many others and really there is nothing helpful other than to find out unfortunately, this POS company is a legitimate collections agency. So one piece of advice was to call the debtor - so I call Customer Service for G&A:
Publisher: Intermedia Outdoors, Inc.
Customer Service Number:(800) 800-2666
I speak to the operator and she states that notices had been sent - I clarified that if you mean "Re-Subscribe notices" she states "Yes". So apparently, any magazine publisher on earth can give your debt to a collection agency if you let it expire. Yea! for corporate America, scummy lawyers, and bottom feeding collection agencies. She entered the phone number,#issues, and total fee into her computer and stated I might receive one more notice but that this was now taken care of and I was free of the debt.
So, it appears the "New" way to Un-Subscribe is to notify the company that you will not be re-subscribing. Otherwise, they will push out a junk debt to the Trolls.
And that’s my story.

GSA representing Popular Science sent me three notices for magazines I never renewed nor received. Unable to contact this company, I called Popsci. I explained that the law states that the CUSTOMER must request renewal, not the magazine. I see that there is a lawsuit pending concerning this matter with NSA who represents many publishers. If they report a delinquent account status on you with any credit bureau, you need to contact that credit bureau and advise them the report is in dispute. Then find out who is filing the suit, and see if you may join. Popular Science advised they are notifying nsa to stop trying to collect on a nonexistant debt.

You can phone them and let them know the call is being recorded by yourselves. The inform them that they are being billed for YOUR time, and bill them for the time it's taken to call them AND read their letters. Then send them a bill and keep chasing it up. YOU WILL WIN.

GARDEN DESIGN kept sending me threatening letters to re-subcribe or they would send my information to North Shore Agency, which they did! I called GARDEN DESIGN and they said I needed to call and cancell the subsciption, that's bullshit! I am filing a complaint to the Better Business Bureau!!!! Assholes.. scaring people in to buying their magazine or else they will ruin their credit, it's just wrong

Add me to the list. I received a collection letter from North Shore Agency, Inc. dated January 5, 2010 concerning "my subscription to Garden Design", and I quote, "You have an opportunity to settle this account in the amount of $21.00 before further collection activity becomes necessary. Our job is to state our position and give you ample opportunity to respond and clear your account with our client. Make a check payable to North Shore Agency, and mail it in the envelope provided." I had not subscribed to Garden Design in the first place, nor did I wish to.
These collection notices they send are very official looking and intimidating. My husband is an attorney and he was concerned when he saw it. There are two phone numbers on the collection notice. Both numbers simply have recordings so that you can give them your credit card number to pay them the money they say you owe. THANKS SO MUCH to the person who recently posted the following phone number. The number to call to speak to a live person at North Shore Agency, Inc. is 866-848-2121. When I called this number and told them I was aware of their scam, a man politely told me the bill would be removed from their records, and that I would receive no more letters. He also said that they never contact the credit bureau. That seems to me to be an admission of the fact that they know their billing is bogus.
I would assume that sending false bills is illegal. If anyone knows of a way for victims to band together to exert pressure against this dishonest practice, I would love to lend the strength of one more person to this effort. I am sure that many people are frightened when they get these collection letters and just send in the money.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against North Shore Agency for allegedly using illegal debt collection practices. North Shore Agency, Inc. is a subsidiary of Outsourcing Solutions Inc. North Shore Agency, Inc. claims on its Web site that the company is one of the nation's largest billing and collection letter companies, which specializes in the creation, production, printing, preparation and mailing of billing, collection and direct response marketing letters throughout the U.S. and Canada. New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed a lawsuit against a New York lawyer who allegedly allowed a debt collection agency to use the lawyer’s name in order to intimidate and threaten consumers with bogus legal action. According to the lawsuit, John P. Nicolia was paid $141,000 by Eastern Asset Management debt collection agency, so that Eastern Asset Management could use his and his law firm’s name – without ever doing any actual legal work for the debt collector.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Cuomo said,“The lawsuit alleges that this attorney knowingly allowed a debt collection firm to use his name to threaten, intimidate, and harass consumers, while he sat back and profited without having to do any actual work. Our investigation into illegal debt collection practices has uncovered layer upon layer of abusive acts, and we will continue to root out the bad players in this industry.”

Both the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and New York debt collection and consumer protection laws prohibit debt collection agencies from posing as an attorney or threatening legal action that cannot be taken. Cuomo’s suit alleges that Eastern Asset Management’s debt collectors told consumers they were calling from the Law Offices of John Nicolia and sent “settlement” letters to consumers saying that “…our legal counsel, John Nicolia, Esq. may review the status of your particular case at anytime.

Don't you people get it - these people send out bills and keep whatever comes in. They are not associated with Forbes or News Week or any of these firms.

Don't worry a negative credit report item for $20 from some yahoo will not effect you in the least. Throw it in the trash where it belongs.

What do u do when out walking and are attacked by a neighborhood dog? Grit your teeth and go after it!!! Just received a friendly letter from them. For openers I DO NOT HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THEM so they got nothing, secondly they are required to have firsthand knowledge of the debt which THEY DON'T. Third i have a UCC trade name on my name and any form therein and also a fee schedule so tomorrow i will get the CEO and CFO's name along with the person I talk to and tell this will be my only warning...if they use my name and report it to the credit bureaus it WILL cost them PERSONALLY LOTS OF $$ for accepting MY CONTRACTS. Debt collectors are all bark and no bite.

Commencing Jan. 2013 I started receiving collection notices from North Shore Agency attempting to collect $19.94 for a subscription to Men's Journal Magazine. I am an elderly southern woman. I have never and would never subscribe to the journal. Unless of course they offered a recipe for coconut cake that is better than mine! I don't see that happening. I attempted calling them numerous times -never an answer. I contacted Men's Journal and they have been just as difficult. This is absurd!!!!! To date no resolution. If this ends up on my credit report, Katy bar the door! How can this be permitted to go on for so many years?

Apparently they are unaware of our State Motto - DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!
