Get a grip. There are plenty of businesses who have limited ABC licenses that have NOT played the race card.

Many issues go into the decision....none of which have to do with race.

Could the ABC decision have something to do with the owner's past actions?

I concur that Andre's music attracts quality people and he should be allowed to open this business and run it. Where Dale Nieman is a bigot or not, this sure smacks of bigotry................

I don't care one way or another about the color of the owner but as a person I believe this business owner has been done dirty by the city and CLPD needs to rethink their postion! I am glad that there is at least someone from any venue stepping up to help this guy out! Good luck!

Last I looked his "partner" Hammes was a white guy...so how do you get the racist angle?
I think our government(idiots they are) are not being bigoted or racist, they are simply looking at past history. Andre or Kevin (darn nice guys) aren't the problem, it's the crowds and lack of civility that causes the problems.

Agreed! It's the crowd the business attracts. Andre played at the blues club and it was a fine dining restaurant. The crowd was nothing like the crowds his lower end businesses attract. Andre, kick it up a knotch and bring to clearlake what was once at the blues place. The cops here are not the holy rulers of Clearlake. People need to stand up and let this be known!

ah yes, once again kelseyville distingushes itself as the epicenter of understanding of the complexities of racial interactions, albeit in retarded redneck form!

We made one of them president. We gave them advantages above what we ourselves are allotted. The classes are economically the same and still we are forced to tolerate their savagery.
so do i await the scrum.

better watch that context when using words like "aggresive", especially when dealing with women or some big black guy who might want to squish you like a tick. One will get you a mug shot and the other a free burial, this might be a good time to rethink your approach.

Clint,
Ordinarily I do not post to blogs. I do write commentaries from time to time to spotlight injustices in our system of government. However, since your comments are directed at me, here is my reply. l. Haiti is receiving help from countries around the world; 2. I am an American citizen; 3. my commentary, "Equal application of the law?" is not about Haiti or Africa; and 4. I am well educated, knowledgeable about a wide range of topics, and, I am cultured, and will not stoop to your level of thinking. If you truly have something of value to share with the readers of this paper, why not write a commentary and submit it for placement in the local newspaper. I certainly intend to continue to speak out and write about injustices, as is my right!

Aqeela El-Amin Bakheit:

Sometimes there are legitimate reasons for being turned down for an license to sell alcohol, regardless of the skin color of the supplicant.

Sometimes small-town/small-time thugs simply want an extra envelope of cash, regardless of the skin color of the supplicant.

Sometimes people simply look down on those who consume alcoholic beverages, dance suggestively, and listen to loud music, regardless of the skin color of the supplicant.

Sometimes the answer is "No," regardless of the skin color of the supplicant.

In short, sometimes, Aqeela El-Amin Bakheit, it is not about you.

I hope Andre Williams gets things straightened out ... I always enjoyed "Moon River."

This owner had no past actions at Mario's Lounge location and nobody said anything about the race card either. If you read the article - it was about the past owner of that location nothing more or less. Amazing how people can jump to unfounded conclusion by reading something is not there. Hope this clears up your confusion!

In stating this i have indeed stooped to your level in noting discrimination of European people. We are not all that different in the regard that we support each of our unique and individual races. The difference is where we do it. As you may have noticed, Lake County is more or less 88% white. Also noteworthy is the fact i have not been promoting the better interests of my race in Africa or Haiti. We both know how long it would take my body to be dragged behind a truck in African nations if i were to assert European advocacy in those places.
Tangentially, What if I said there was an equality problem in Africa and the only way to solve this equality problem was to pour in millions of non-Africans, demand equal rights, affirmative action for them meanwhile labeling all the black police officers as racists for resisting the crime associated with their presence?
How long would it take for any sensible African to realize this isn’t an equality problem, but a problem with Africans and that this is not just a solution but a final solution to a black problem.
A problem with blacks which entails black displacement from their own countries and indigenous lands? What kind of self respecting black person wouldn’t object to that?
You say you are anti racist. You say you are pro equality.
What you are is anti white.
You are not well, seek help immediately.

I don't know all the details about the restrictions on the alcohol license. I know Kevin and Andre, I grew up with them, and they are good, motivated, individuals. I agree with one persons post who said that the problem wasn't with Andre, but with the class of people going to the bars and clubs. Hopefully this new club will attract a higher class of people who will respect and appreciate the establishment. When I say higher class of people it has nothing to do with money. I grew up in Clearlake on welfare and ran with a bad crowd. My friends and I raised alot of hell and did alot of bad things, so I know first hand what type of people go to the bars and clubs. Security should definetly be an issue at Andre's establishment. Good luck Andre!!!!! I think you need all the luck you can get to get past Clearlake's corrupt and backwards thinking politics!!

Good Post - Should both these guys ever get past the misinformation threads they have both stated their interest is in bring a quality form of entertainment focusing and catering to 35 year and above. Bringing in local and national known Blues artists from around the state. Andre Williams is a professional entertainer, record producer, song writer and perfectly understand the need for security at such events as is required during his own performances in other venues. According to Andre, he wanted to provide some much needed employment opportunities and bring culture class entertainment. Andre is well aware of some of Clearlake's problems, owning and operating other businesses for some 18 yrs in Lake County and Clearlake. Owning the only FM Raido station on the southshore 100.3fm KMOB. He is not a stranger to those issues. Those of you who know Andre for his talents and entertainment reputation needs your help to level the playing field with the GOB city council who do not want Clearlake to move forward and prosper. Stop by his bar and sign his petition, am sure he would appreciate your help.

You know.
So the kids would have an institution of learning from a bunch of Old school Gangsters. Baggy pants, backward caps, over sized shirts and a mac ten.
Pretty ball-sy of you to assume you know what he "meant". Clueless, full of fear. Not superior.

There was rarely a problem at Andre's new location for about 50 years while Mario owned the place. Then after he sold to a guy named Oscar there were many problems because Oscar tried a format which lured the undesirable rowdy element who promptly tore the place up. To local law enforcement it is the place which is "guilty until proven innocent", not the new owner. This is not racism, but it is still unfair. Andre deserves the chance to prove he can prevent the problems the police fear.

The black population of any area does itself no favors by whining every time things go against someone who just happens to be of color. The fact that B follows A does not necessarily mean A caused B.

Agree. He deserves a chance to prove he can make his establishment a benefit to the area. Everyone deserves a chance...not denied because of what the previous owner failed to do yes? Color is not the issue, but I can see why some believe it may be, because, let's face it Lake county is predominatly "white".
