It's been all over the news, for the past year. There is another casino going in where the vineyard is, across from the red barn on HWY 20.

Wow - they even had the driveway entrance poured and sidewalks put in when they were doing the road widening between Upper Lake and almost to the Cut-off Road. Supposedly mostly hotel and some slot machines - we'll see how that ratio plays out.

It is a real shame that this important place could go under.I would hope that it will be reopened and managed to be successful again.
Do we need to sell out to a casino? I hope not

Why didn't they sell the 500+ slot machines that stashed away there? That would've helped cover the mismanaged funds.

A Casino is the only viable option. Midget troll Bennett and the Plumber's Union have ruined the business just like something from the Sopranos. The only thing is they didn't burn it down. Greg has run it into the ground. For the past few years, the food went from bad to worse and the icing on the entertainment cake was the use of the Lousy Boys Air Band.
The fact that you and Perdock were regulars didn't help it at all. No one wants to be where there is a stench like yours. That would be my guess.
A casino? Who would want to come? Racial profiling in the county? What, a casino for "white folks" like Donna Christ, who isn't all that white? Donna Christ just thinks so, like Hitler adn the SS. The SS in Lake county are the "snakes in suits" and bad for business ANYWHERE.

I was at the Kid Rock concert and dont know what you are talking about?? I thought it was great when Dropkick Murphys came and called everyone from the bleachers to the front of the stage... security was trying like heck to get all the kids to stay back but .. the band said if you dont let them up front we are walking off stage... It was a great concert.

Glad that cesspool finally closed. Trashy workers and scummy rooms. Bennett didn't try ti improve the property and it showed. It is why it is now gone.

Sad to see it go! My husband and I spent the first night of our honeymoon there after getting married on Cobb in 89. I'll never forget the 70's decore that was like a time capsule. We have a photo of ourselves out in front of the fountain. We were about 25 at the time and now we're close to 50, have kids and no where as good looking as we were back then. Things changed and went by fast as they did for KHR. I sure would like to see some other group take over the resort and make it like it was. Not a casino, please! Thanks for the memories!

UPPER LAKE, CA (Lake County)- The US Department of the Interior has approved a petition from the Habematolel Pomo Tribe of Upper Lake to place
11.24 acres of tribal property into federal trust for the purpose of building a $35 million casino next to the Upper Lake County Park on Highway 20.

The Secretary of the Interior Department issued a “finding of no significant impact”(FONSI) after an environmental assessment, comments from the public, and the tribe’s responses to those comments. The tribe's attorney, Robert Rosette, said “It's a significant victory in the grand scope of their project. Emotionally, as well, it means an awful lot to this tribe to reestablish their land base.”

The final step before breaking ground on the new casino is for the tribe to negotiate a gaming compact with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and having it approved by the state legislature and the federal government. If approved this fall, construction could begin in the first half of 2009 and finish
12-18 months after that.

CASINO PLAN
20,000-square-foot gaming floor
349 slot machines
Table games, including blackjack
Restaurant and bar

HOTEL PLAN
Future -“Phase 2”
200 guest rooms
The hotel was included in the environmental impact report and approved by the federal government.

Obviously way too much from us taxpayers....they seem to be getting enough "other income" (bribes for the Lake County Educated) from the special interest groups, Schwartzenkennedy would love another casino to tax. Also it's just what this county needs is more minimum wage jobs.
Barry has probably taken credit for the job creation this, so far, non-existent casino will bring.

I don't think that the casinos pay minimum wage, and even if they do it is better than having those individuals on the unemployment and welfare roles, don't ya think??

Agree. Especially in these tough economic times. You take whatever work is available to keep your head above water.

Casinos pay a wage with opportunity for periodic raises. They also have fully paid health plans including vision and dental for the employee. They have every conceivable holiday off, including Indian holidays and lots of comp time, free meals, etc. They are not bad places to work if you can avoid the backbiting and backstabbing stuff. Certainly better than working for Bennett and the rest of the crooks.
