Where is code enforcement

Clearfield, PA

#1 May 1, 2013
What's up with people having bags full of garbage on their porches? There are codes already in the books, why are they not being enforced? We have campers stored on the streets. Junk cars are everywhere. Old furniture in yards. Our once beautiful town is looking like a slum. 5th Street in particular is a disgrace, but there are many, many more. A simple drive around town is all that is needed to see this. Where are our leaders?

While I agree, I hope this is not intended to be a Mack bashing. All of our leaders are responsible. We have one code enforcement person. I am sure the legalities of these situations are very time consuming. Having to issue warnings, etc. our council people receive pay for their service and are most familiar with their precincts. They should be identifying problem areas and notifying code enforcement. We should all call or stop at the office to file formal complaints about particular properties. Keep records of dates and who it was reported to. Stay in touch for updates and attend council meetings if necessary. If everyone would work together I think we could take out most of the trash for good. There should also be a three strike rule for landlords who continually rent to people who do not maintain the properties. They should be penalized with fines or perhaps a new tax for repeat offenders. It's the landlords responsibility to maintain their rental properties and I believe rentals hold the most offenders in this category.

Leaders? Best laugh all week. Thanks for that.

In the meanwhile, drive through town and enjoy the 9 million dollar light poles and sidewalks while the rest of the communities decay around you. It'll make you feel better. Well, maybe not, but you'll get a better feel for the 'leaders' priorities.

Martin St. extension - the people in the rental house that leave the garbage out for days on end. I'll bet their neighbors love them. Take some pride in your home even if you don't own it.

We spend all this money for a couple of square blocks while the rest of the town falls apart. As for contacting Mack, might as well piss of the Market Street bridge. At least then your bladder will be empty.

Yes, all our leader are responsible, but more of the responsibility is in the hands of the people who create this problem... the people with the junk in their yards and on their porches! If people have complaints about their neighbors why don't THESE people confront the neighbors about it?

Um, last I checked, Martin St. extension was in Lawrence Township. Martin St is in the borough.

Yea, I can tell ya too dumbass considering I used to work for the township police and we had to know exactly where the boundaries were. And considering there is a township sign on Martin St. where the township begins, at least there used to be. And I wouldn't exactly consider that the "extension."

If you could have, you would have but you already know you'd be wrong. There is NO Martin St. Extension in the boro.

The 900 block of Martin St. is not called Martin St. Extension. That's where the line is.

Exactly!!! The last two streets in the borough on Martin St. are Olive St. and Welch Ave. The borough actually ends in an alley behind Welch Ave. called Gaulin Drive and this is nowhere near what would be considered Martin St. extension. Williams Road, which is in the township, is probably the first street in the township where you could start calling Martin St. the extension, but even that's pushing it.

You got it. The township used to (and probably still does) take the small plow up Gaulin Dr only after Dr. Bell built his home up there and got it named. For ages that was a private road to Ogden's Hill or Ogden's Farm depending on what era you're from. I can still remember Old man Ogden clearing the snow with his tractor.

That was a bad ass hill to sled ride on. Broken bones and countless stitches occurred from that hill.

I can't imagine anyone challenging you over this based on your former occupation. Really, their hatred overrides all sensibility.

Suggesting our wonderfully useless, oops I mean useful code enforcement officer do something besides pester people that actually do try to do what they are supposed to is ludicrous... I mean really... he bugs one person about nothing and then ignores blatant code violations. Every one sees him as a joke. Helps to know what you are doing before you start a job I guess, then maybe you can do it consistently and correctly.

Mr. Houser is correct. Maybe he really does know it all. But how did he know this tidbit of info about Martin street? Why, its ibecause at 1 point, his deadbeat ass was forced to reside there, at a relatives home,'sleeping on the couch, back when he got fired from LTPD.
