It is not that they are collecting too little in taxes. The fact is that expenditures are too high. We build new schools with flat roofs. We pay engineers a % of the bid amount instead of making them bid their services. Where is the incentive for a cost effective bid if I get paid more the higher the construction costs? You can't tell where they spend the money from the budget they give the public. All lump sums with no department breakdowns. I want to know where every dollar goes. Not take some administrators word that the numbers are correct. It's our damn money- not theirs!

Whether they can justify three or not, it's obviously not working with the three they have in those positions. As for "BI CURIOUS", you're correct two principals and a coach.
I understand that cuts will need to be made on all levels, but tell me why the administration is exempt. Matt Houser did have a point when he mentions lower enrollment. If a business loses staff, they scale back on employees.
The current school tax system is out-of-date. We need to find alternative measures to increase tax revenue for the school system. Homeowners have already felt this recession on too many levels. We need to find a way to tax individuals that are renters and send multiple children to school.
It just doesn't make any sense that homeowners are the only residents that pay while renters (that statistically have more children) don't contribute.

the school says they wont hire new teachers when teachers retire? if they cut down on the teachers, how bout they cut down on administration where the big money is. there is NO REASON for three principals and three guidance counselors at the high school. plus there is one athletic director and 2 assistants? why???? this district holds athletics in higher priority than academics.

'Sceptic' has a point about difficult decisions being kicked down the road to a future board. I wonder who the current board members are who were part of the board ten or more years ago who were unable to make a difficult decision. Care to name them??

I'd have to do some research to be 100% sure, but just off the top of my head, I know Spencer, Shickling, and Putt have been there a while, but I don't know how long. If I recall correctly, in the past two elections, the majority of the the people who were up for election on the board were unopposed. I'm not condoning the decisions by the boards of the past because it's how we got into this mess in the first place. The problem is, we can't "vote em out" if there's no one else running to vote for.

skeptic===i think spencer, schickling, putt have been there two terms. morgan has been there 4 terms. he is the longest running member. this board did not build the girard school nor did it put the district in this position. do i agree with everything they have done certainly not. i have been to a couple of board meetings as a taxpayer and the thing i see is there is no unity on this board. it has an obnoxious board president that has 5 votes to do whatever he wants done. it is his way or no way. just go to a meeting and witness what goes on. i have a friend who was on the feasibility study group and they said glass was not in favor of anything the public members spoke on or was for. he and a couple of his right hand people seem to be against most things.--namely--mikesell and jackson and carr, are in his pocket.---comments

Thanks. As I said before, I wasn't sure who all had been there for how long. All I know for SURE is that most of them have been unopposed.

Don't vote for Gertrude "Aunt Trudy" Adam. She has a hidden agenda. She is an aunt to the Reddens and they want her on the school board to push their own agenda. This woman is pretty much a drunk and a waste.
How true. The Reddens are trying to get their spot on the school board as the Wallaces did, and they're doing so by using an alcoholic mess. Nice choice.

Instead of making personal attacks attend the board meetings. Don't vote for someone with no qualifications or has a conflict of interest... makes it kind of tough based on our current choices.

What we need are 2 or 3 recently retired business owners to run for the board and straighten out the mess. No bank branch managers, insurance agents or members of academia need apply.

Jennifer Wallace does a good job on the board, not to mention she and Kevin are separated and getting a divorce. She has four children and she is one of few that gives a crap about the tax payers. Learn some respect, and stop running people down.

If it's true they are getting divorced, I think it's very sad. I know a lot of people have complained about the wife of an administrator being on the board, but she is required by law to abstain from any votes which would directly involve Kevin. Plus she is a person with enough ethics to know what is a conflict of interest and what is not. I do not envy this board nor any future boards which will come in. They have been left with a huge mess they are now having to "fix" at an enormous cost. While some of the present board members were involved in the decisions which have resulted in this disaster, we can't lump them all together. All we can do is make informed decisions on election day.

I had to work 500 goddamned hours JUST TO PAY my school taxes. Holy fuc/k that is 10 hours a week for 50 weeks. What, I gotta survive on 300 dollars a year? WTF do they expect!

I'm living in a box with a flat roof, so bug off you a$$hole that said something about 'flat roofs'...you wouldn't know what its like living in a flat roofed home that is always leaky!

If you knew ANYTHING about engineering, you would know that most business buildings are built with your 'flat roof' type structure. This isn't 1920 anymore where school was taught in a barn and pig shit was used for chalk. Please, you all make yourselves look stupid.

Taxes aren't gonna change. Bitch all you want, but until YOU do something, nothing will change.

Also, Clearfield will forever have sports as long as that school is in the sky and people attend it.

Soccer, Football, Baseball, you name it, they do it. All coaches are paid. Wait..so you are telling me they should take out 2-3 hours each night to oversee football workouts, every damned Friday ride a bus all over God's creation to football games, and give up everything on your evenings/summers off, all for free? You gotta be kidding me. They only make a few more thousand a year being one, wow, big deal. They have to give up a lot and basically work two jobs, night and day. Most of you would not know the dynamics of that combination, so you have no reason to speak like you do.
