I've noticed that many people in this area do not tip, or tip enough.
Waitresses work hard, on their feet all day. Please go to Dairy Queen or Mickey D's if you can not afford to eat and leave a tip!

Any waitresses want to chime in?

They are uncultured and do not realize that waitresses make their money from tips as part of their salary and just see it as them saving a few dollars on their meal. They are cheap and selfish. Most people also tip about 7% and if my iPhone is correct with the tip calculator lol, it should be at least 15%.

Not a waitress but I'll chime in.:)

I see many couples having a meals at local eating establishments and leave a dollar tip, then they go outside and climb into a $30,000 vehicle.

FWIW, We always leave at least a 30% tip. Not bragging, just know what it's like to make a low wage so we do what we can to help others. We also stack our dishes and tidy up the table. Nothing worse than cleaning up after people. I did it when I was younger and some people are just nasty.

Not a waitress either but...Jeez - even my kids know if you can't afford to leave a nice tip - you can't afford to eat there. Then there is the co-worker that stiffs on the tip bc the food was slow or not great - like that is the waitress' fault - leaving it up to the rest of us to cover for her. She won't admit she would stiff the waitress and is just looking for an excuse to do it. And remember people - the tip is on the cost of the tab BEFORE any coupons or discounts!

Arrowhead,

Your just a cheap ass.

Wait until you go back to the place you left a $1.00

People remember stuff like that and your special sauce might be something "real special"

I tip the same amount there as elsewhere. The girls seems to appreciate it. I know they don't have to do much, but that's not the point. I think those who don't are just cheap and some of them probably make much more than I do.

I base my tip on the quality of service I receive. If you give me standard service, you will get the standard 15% tip. If you are a particularly good waitress or waiter, you can get anywhere between 20-30%.

Now if you come to my table chomping gum like a cow, cough all over me and my family, screw up my order, get pissy when I tell you that you screwed up my order, cop an attitude when you have to refill my drink, and the numerous other things some people do when they wait on others, you are going to get a tip that reflects this.

I waited tables ever since I was old enough to work. I know what a lousy job it can be, I know how hard food service people work and I know how horrible people can treat you, but don't complain about a cruddy tip when you do a half-ass job.

So right, I too, at one time was a teen-aged waitress. Also summers
during college. I also over tip, especially pregnant waitresses, and those with children. It is a very hard job. Some of these ladies depend on tips to make a minimum wage. AND THEY ARE OUT THERE WORKING FOR A LIVING, NOT SITTING AROUND WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO KNOCK ON THEIR DOOR TO OFFER THEM A JOB!

When I used to be a waitress, yes, the Real Torch used to waitress during college, you had to be trained, how to approach a table, explain the different items on the menu if asked, and push the desserts! Bring silverware and beverages to the table to keep the patrons calm if you were very busy, and just have a positive additude, come to work in a clean uniform and polished shoes. So, Tipster, it is probably just a lack of training when you have a bad experience.

I do tip at the Chinese resturant. I usually give the girl a buck or two. I have also tipped just on carry out because the young girl was having a rough night and other patrons were acting like aholes.

Whenever, I go into a place to eat the tip starts at 20% and can go up or down depending upon service. I have left a penny and I have left 75%. Usually, the bartenders (not to drink just eat and prefer to sit at the bar) at Denny's are great and those girls always get a nice tip. There is a waiteress at Hedges (Ginger, I think) and we always request her when we go in there.
Spanky's usually the girls do a good job, truck stops is hit or miss.

I used to wait tables years ago and I understand the actual work involved.

You usually get what you deserve. If the services sucks, so will the tip. That being said, I always tip 15-20%, even at the Chinese place. They are good waitresses there and if anyone deserves a tip, they do.

While a lack of training could explain some issues, there are people out there who just don't give a damn. They do the job half-ass and get pissed when their tip is half-ass too. If you're at least attempting to do a decent job, you'll get a decent tip from me. I can't tell you how many times I've had waitresses/waiters who come to my table even on a slow night, with an attitude the size of Kentucky, as if I'm asking too much of them to do their job.
