Anyone have any good memories to share about their younger years? I remember playing outside all day long.Building camps in the woods and building dams in the creek.Do kids do these things anymore?

I remember: going down town to shop when it was THE place to shop. Going to the fair, riding rides all day and having enough money left over to eat. I also remember playing hide & seek aka jailbreak with all the kids in the neighborhood. We would hide all over the entire block and no one would complain if we ran through their yard. Back then you knew who your neighbors were, and if they saw you do anything out of line, you knew you would get it at home. I guess it is true, it takes a village to raise a child. This topic has made me a little nostalgic, I hope to see more posts here.

Yes this topic can definitely touch a nerve. these days were so exhausting with good physical activity.Hell my poor mother had a hard time getting us in for supper. After we ate we played till dark.Pick up games of baseball football and basketball were a daily event. In the winter we would sled ride ice skate or build eskimo houses.God how i would like to go back for a while and see some childhood friends.

Back in the days when life was fun, walking around town, going to the Ymca dances, the street dances, sock hops at the community pool.Play badmiten and volleyball in the back yard with all the neighbors kids hanging out and good ole mom making us lemonade, now all the kids know how to do is do drugs and set in front of a TV on a video game or on a computer, they dont know what its like to get out in the sunshine, they might melt, yes the drugs were around when us oldies were growing up but nothing like it is now, ask a kid about the name of a good movie they dont know but ask them what a pill is they can sure tell you the numbers mean this and the MG`s mean this, Its just plain sad anymore

Anyone remember all the activity on the river? They would water ski, and there was a pontoon boat named the USS Progress (?) that would give rides. I also remember they would flood the pig pens at the park in the winter time for ice skating. we would stay up all night waiting for the fair train to come into town.

I remember going to a local park we played many games. Everyone got along just great. There were a few men and women who supervised the children.

they also had community play grounds with a big wooden storage box and we played checkers and had tornaments and different board games, kick ball, baseball at the neighbors and we always ended up all pitching in a quarter each to replace the kitchen window that we always seem to put a ball thru and the neighbor would just laugh and replace it.How do we get thoses days back ? dang we sure are showing our ages now ha ha ha

It is so nice to see this site used for something positive. With all the negative junk on here, I am sitting here smiling reading all of the memories. Keep them coming.

I lived on Williams St. when I was a child. I remember waiting up for hours when the fair train would pull in. One year there was an elephant (yes, they used to bring animals big & small on the train) anyway, this elephant relieved itself right next door on our very picky neighbors porch. Isn't it funny what you remember from your childhood?

those were the days , you got up and ate your breakfast and out the door till you would hear mom calling for lunch. parents didn't have to worry about you going missing. In my neighborhood everyone knew today don't have a clue what they are missing !! sled riding or ice skating in the winter big fire hot choc.. summers either the pool or parker dam for the day . camping out , setting around the campfire and talking . playing hide n seek in the dark brings back a lot of wonderful memories . I only hope my grandkids have half of the great memories as i do of my childhood ..

<quoted text>Hell no, kids do what they want, when they want. Back in the day, its was the parents job to discipline their children, not the governments. If I went to the local store and stole a candybar and got caught or I got caught smoking, or disrespecting an elderly person, my parents whooped my ass and that was it. Now kids do something like that and all a parent can do is take away their cell phone or their internet. Hell, kids can do anything they want, take a gun and rob a store, murder somebody, and what? Its the parents fault for not raising or disciplining their childen correctly. Back in the day, we could hang out until dark playing baseball, fishing, all kinds of things, now all kids do is hang out at sheetz, get high, and become parents before they can even spell parent. Ah, the good ole days

I remember one time the supervisor of our community playground forgot to lock the big wooden box (or did he ?) and we played with all the toys till dark and then locked the box. Guess what ? Nothing was missing from the box. Back then we seemed to respect the property of others and I grew up in Hyde Pa.

I remember many things from my childhood. How about how the gas price was low enough our parents could take us on Sunday afternoon drives. Hanging at the community playground until dark playing many different games (everyone getting along). Catching lightening bugs in gallon pickle jars camping out in the backyard with no flashlight only the light from the bugs. The many street dances thoughs were the days. My favorite all time is sitting along the river bank fishing I was alway the one to catch the first fish lol.

I really wish I had grown up in a time like that. Instead of the time I grew up in :( I wish neighbors still helped their neighbors, and kids had respect. I wish parents could spank their kids without child services butting in. Ive seen first hand what kids turn into without any good spankings! They are disrespectful, lazy, and think the world owes them something. I thank God my mom would whoop my ass when I was young. Im a better person for it!:) If one of us kids said "Ill call CYS" , she would hand us the phone and ask us "Would you like me to dial the number"! LOL.She wasnt afraid! I love my mother and thank God she was fearless when it came to raising us.:)
