I hope Pa. puts a limit on this soon. Other states already have. They put limits on the fees to stop shady landlords from making more money on fees than actually renting out the apartment. Less scrupulous landlords had literally created 'shell' apartments that are never intend to be occupied but just to scam applicants out of their screening fees. And it pays better, too.

It's not hard to get 12 applicants a month to plunk down a hundred to get started on a 400.00 a month apartment then make excuses why they didn't qualify. It's easy money and it's legal in Pa.

We charge our applicants 16.00. That's all it cost us. If we enter into a lease, we deduct the 16.00 off the first month's rent.

WHAT DO YOU DO, A STATE CHECK? I do the whole works. State, Fed, National, Job, Credit, and Score. FYI, the lawyer charges me the 100 a pop. To be a landlord, you should have a lawyer on retainer. For this and when something occurs. I learned that the hard way 30 years ago.
