Speaking of access cards. It pays for most who go to the methadone clinics and all there services there. Do you also know that us tax payers also pay to get them there! Its called reimbursement transportation program. They get 25 to 30 cents a mile round trip. they go every day. I know 1 young man that travels 70 miles round trip. Do the math. thats 21.00/day. Or 630.00/month. Now we didn't pay them to got visit there local drug dealer or for there drugs. So why do we have to pay for the methadone plus to get them there? Is something wrong with this or am I missing something? By the way the young man used his check to get a 225.00 Tattoo and buy him self a cell phone for 150.00 plus 45.00 access fee. Community action handles the reimbursement program for the state. You would think they would have ways of handling this program better!

I dont get it, why do they think its okay to trade one drug for another. Just detox them period, why make it easier for them to come off of it. If they knew they had to go through hell, maybe it would deter their drug use.

Its apparent that neither of your have any idea about Methadone or the clinic.
First off, most addicts are not in finically sound situations and need help covering the cost of the treatment.
2nd. Everyone that complains about the clinic has no idea the good that it does. You idiots act like it brought the drug addicts to Clearfield. Sorry to disappoint you but the addicts where already here and that is why the Discovery House decided to open a treatment facility in this area(PROFIT).
In addition, that facility supports over 300 patients. Some of them are still using drugs and are just abusing the system BUT some of them have gotten completely off of drugs and are now a positive member of society! I know of a young man that was a Heroin addict. He was not a good person. He would rob, steal and hurt anyone or anything that got in the way of his next high. This young man attempted rehabs several times and would just end up leaving them and be right back on Heroin. Finally, he decided to try Methadone, and 3 years later: He is completely clean, has a great job, married a beautiful none addict wife, had a beautiful child, bought a home, completed probation and has not been in any trouble!!! If you ask this young man what did it, he claims that it was a team effort between himself, the counslers at the methadone clinic and the methadone. That methadone al,lowed him to safely come off of the Heroin without a bit of drug sickness.
Heroin withdrawels can be a nasty thing and it is the phyiscal pains that cuase people to continue using. This young man describes Heroin withdrawels as the worst flu you have ever had x's 100!!!
As far as going through hell helping to deter their drug use, obviously you have never been an addict, IT IS HELL YOU RETARD!!!

All of the people that bitch and complain about the clinic need to open their eyes. That place is doing some good for this community. I know that some of the people that go there are just abusing the system and have no intentions of getting clean, but there are those there that are following the program and the program works when it is followed. Just like the young man that I spoke about above! In my opinion if 50 of the 300+ patients at that clinic completely kick the habit and become productive members of society then it was well worth every penny!!!!

Never mind how close the clinic is to I-80 right?

Never mind how a friend of mine was eating at the Truck Stop one day and saw a family-mother, grandmother and small daughter (maybe 12 yrs old) that was so F'd up they could hardly speak and or sit up in their chairs the little girl had to practically spoon feed the "adults" at the table I wonder if the 12 year old drove them home that day?

Never mind the Mom and Stepfather that get so F'd up they pass out on the couch for days while the 2 little girls are left to fend for themselves unless the dad who tries his best to help them the best he can comes around and "wakes" momma and her buddy up.

Never mind the grandmother and granddaughter that were killed a few years ago by an addict that had just left the meth clinic and ran them down while they were taking a nice walk in the spring/early summer sun.

Never mind that they are supposed to have a D.D when they go to get their fix but 99% of them say F it I'll drive myself and Never Mind that the clinic workers don't even check to make sure that the addicts the leave the clinic dont get into the drivers seat.
Yes, never mind all of this YOU LEAVE THE ADDICTS ALONE! THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO BETTER THEMSELVES AS CITIZENS OF THIS COMMUNITY!!!...until one decides to leave that clinic one day and smashes their car into you or someone you know or your husband or your wife maybe your father or mother brother or sister God forbid maybe even your son or daughter...
Heroine and other drugs like it are taking over our community. Did you know that it is easier for a middle school kid to buy heroine and pills than it is for them to buy a bag of weed? Thats something to ponder I think.

The amount of hard drug use in this community is astounding...something needs to be done about it other than a clinic that enables the addict to keep on abusing.

I'll never know what hell it is being an addict because I'm not stupid enough to start using in the first place.

The clinic serves over 300 patients and probably 90% or more are paid for my us taxpayers as well as their transportation to get there. "Some" of them are being helped, most of them are still on drugs, still going to be on drugs years from now.

Methadone treatment for that many people costs between $15,000-$90,000 a WEEK!
That's between $780,000-$4.7 million a year. That's not including the cost to transport people there.

Let them go through withdrawal or pay for it out of their own pockets, there is no reason why taxpayers should have to foot the bill for others stupidity.

oh and one more thing i forgot never mind the poor babies that are born addicted to meth each and every day because the mothers still go to the clinic while they are pregnant to get their fix...when I had my son last year their was a little girl born the day after him that was addicted to meth because the mother was addicted to meth and was going to the clinic...do you know that the dr's actually give these poor babies heroine in small amounts from the time of birth to wean them off of the drugs they are addicted to because the mothers are too damn selfish and too damn stupid to stop using during their pregnancies?

It is a racket, this " methadone supporter" must be making some money off of this. Addicts should go thru HELL when they withdraw, they are the ones that decided to stick the needle in their arm. They dont have any MONEY ? Well they sure had it to buy their drugs. And you are so right they are " LEGAL SUPPLIERS". It should STOP.

You, my friend, are in the minority. I lived near the Discovery House when it was in Curwensville. We had criminals running thru our neighborhood. If you were to drive by at 4am (while driving to WORK) you would find a parking lot of tailgaters. It was a group of junkies who were rude, yelling at people driving by. If you drove by during the daytime they would make hand gestures if you even looked their way. Not to mention the young lady who drove head on into a hurse on it's way to the cemetary. Oh and the incidence of shoplifting has dropped drastically since Discovery House moved. Giddy up...

Im sorry but I truly believe Methadone Clinics do more damage then good. Im sure for every few people that they do manage to help there is an entire conity made to suffer. Crime rates go up, Traffic Accidents Increase and in turn those functioning members of society are punished further with higher insurance rates.

I dont believe in rewarding people for their poor choices or bad behavior...thats all these clinics do. They enable drug addicts to reliquish responsibilty...they r told that they r the victims and they will recieve the help they need...when in actuality one of the first steps in ANY TRUE REHAB Program is taking responsibility for ones self and ones own actions.

Im sorry Ms. Meth Supporter but just like welfare. the thought / idea behind these clinics may be good thing but the actual implementation stinks!

The clinic is there to help folks that want to get better and help themselves to gain self respect. Their gas miliage is slowly going away they wont pay them to come to the clinic so they have to tranferr to closer clinics so there is light at the end of the tunnel but on the other there are hard working people that pay out of pocket for their treatment welfare doesnt take care of them
and further more do you people really know anything about the clinic and what they do you people think they get their fix for the day well you are dead wrong they have jobs and a family. The pregant ones have to contine on methodone so the fetus doesnt go through withdrwals while in the uterus so the mother is thining of her unborn child you people need to do you homework and research before you run your mouths about something you know nothing about

I am well aware what this 'for profit' establishment has to offer. I'm aware that some actually do have jobs and families but, let's talk about 'the pregnant ones' no mother is thinking about their baby when they allow themselves become pregnant will addicted to or being treated for drug abuse. Who takes care of these babies after birth? Do they go home with their drug/methadone addicted mother and most likely several other siblings? It truly makes me sick to see the kind of white trash that go to the 'clinic' and have moved into this area. BTW don't tell me that these folks didn't move here to be close to the Discovery House. That's excatly what they did

the clinic is there to make money, period. many go there by court order, not because they want help. gas mileage may go bye-bye but the transport companies will still continue to operate, mostly paid for by taxpayers.

no you need to do your homework, you can read up about the mothers getting off methodone will pregnant. but most people tell them its not a good idea. just excuses. if you were doing heroin, do you think the dr. would say no go ahead and keep using. its not good for the baby. like the people above, i have never ever tried any of these stupid drugs. they choose to do it. well then it is there problem to get off. thats how i see, why should we have to pay for their habbits. they dont pay for mine. wonder if i can get them to pay for my cigs or alchol. sound ridiculous well thats exactly my point...

Methadone Clinics were started by liberals and run by liberals. It's a money maker and a waste of tax payer money. When does the waste and control stop? Next thing we will be told to wipe our a$$ with only colored paper.

These drug users chose to become addicts. Let them take care of their own problems at their expense.

I'm addicted to cigarettes should I have a free program to help me?

To all you
once you become an addict some may beat the habit and others may not the ones that do are always battling the addiction it is an illness just like being and alcoholic it never goes away as far as booting up hell no the dr. isnt going to recomend to continue but however he will try different treatment to help the mother and the fetus safe Im not ssaying its right to continue to use but however sometimes after mother gives birth the mother gets cleans and maintains functionalble with parent hood. To answer your question I would say most of the newborn babies go home with thier family and live a normal life as much as possible. You all are bashing addicts what about other addictions you see no problem with a drunk getting behind the steering wheel and killing a whole faimly in a car accident that happened 7 yrs ago in punxsutawney but in this accident all incincent people got killed and the drunk driver got killed as well so he didnt have to live with what he did

Once again...it is just another organization whicches and reitterates that these people are the victims! Yes...they are victims of their own over indulgence, immaturity and self abuse....thats it!

And I need to read up on what the methadone clinic offers? My cousin CHOSE to go the Methadone clinic and get a fix because she was trying to get off Rx pain killers...well thats what she said so she could get it paid for...in actuality her dealer went to jail...now she has another habit!

One of the first steps of sobriety is taking responsibility for what u have done and your OWN life... I dont see that happening at any methadone clinic.

Being a drug addict should not entitle u to a free pass at anything!

alot of addicts are created by dr who prescribed narcotics for pain intead of fixing the problem that is how alot of presciption addicts got their head start for their addictions its not that easy to get clean what about cove forge that has in house detox center and drug rehab it isnt as effective at the methadone clinic because people dont have the time to take off work as where with the methodone clinc they can still work and feed their faimly Dr Adams created alot of the problem
