After reading about the girl buying the latte on her access card I decided to do a little research about food stamps and cash assistance...my jaw hit the floor when i learned from the clearfield assistance office that cash assistance (which is both state and federal tax dollars) can be used for whatever they want. For example tobacco products and alcohol. I am outraged. I think that everyone should call their local represenatives and complain. I have made several phone calls in the last few days. I dont know what it will do but things need to cahnge. I know I dont enjoy paying for people who CHOOSE not to work.

I also think any one who applies for any type of assistance should be drug tested. This would eliminate 50% of them

Oh yeah, whean i'm all done paying for daycare, gas, food, utilites, house payment and all that jazz, I have can hardly afford a 6 pack, yet I see some people who receive cash assistance talking about being out at the bar getting wasted every night and they're never without cigarettes.

Sometimes, I think I would be better off staying at home with my child and collecting mony off of the taxpayers but I feel better just because I get off my ass every day and try.

That's exactly why so many people posted to that particular thread when it was first brought up and the majority of them were pretty pissed.

I have no problem with temporarily helping someone who has fallen on hard times, particularly with the economy the way it is. I DO however, have a major problem with people who make Welfare/Access a way of life and then have the audacity to brag about it. I also have a major problem with people who are perfectly capable of working claiming "disability." They are so "disabled" that they can't work, yet I see plenty of them sauntering around Wal-Mart like they own the joint bragging about how hard they partied and going "four-wheeling." Okay...you are too disabled to work, yet you're out partying and bouncing around on an ATV??

How about being disabled and spending your entire day running a snow-blower for cash? Taking ramps on and off your truck, taking the big snow-blower up and down the ramps over and over and over. Yup, looks disabled to me.

People on cash assistance make like $280 a month. They are not living high on the hog.

You forgot to mention everything else they get. I don't have $280 left at the end of the month. Unlike them I don't get my others bills paid.

Maybe she didn't know about the free cell phone available to those on a limited income.

What they do with their cash is their business. Don't bash anyone until you have lived their life. While some do abuse as with anything many are on it for a real reason.

Look at all the shady going ons with working people cheating on their taxes and claiming dependents that are not real.

Stop worrying about a coffe or pack of smokes bought by someone with cash assistance and start worrying about yourself, your family and our local government as there is MUCH shady acts going on in our little area by our own elected officials.

STOP WORRYYING ABOUT A COFFE OR PACK OF SMOKES BOUGHT BY SOMEONE WITH CASH ASSISTANCE? That cash assistance is comming out of my paycheck. These lazy scumbags cant work? There are senior citizens who are retired after working all their life, working at Wal*Mart, yet these douchebags cant get off their asses and go to work? F*^K YOU, lady. The government should do away with all these "benefits" except for the people who are truely disabled and cant work. Tell the ones that are capable of working that they have like 6 months to get a job and after that time, take away their benefits. If they have children, oh well, take them from the deadbeats and place them in families that work for an income!

what they do with their cash is their business...really? that would be the case if they EARNED their own money instead of taking it from the government!

Start posting names of these scumbags, would ya?? Maybe a hardworking, tax paying, law abiding citizen (me) will do their civic duty and REPORT THIS FRAUD!! Getting angry about all this is not helping anyone. We must "out" the lazy asses! Workers' Comp cases too!

I am a young first time mother on food stamps and cash assistance. I feel insulted that i had to apply in the first place. I did a drug test and signed papers stating that I will not buy tobacco products or alcohol or I will be fined and dropped from the program forever. Don't be outraged that Mothers get this help for the children. Responsible caring mothers do this bc deadbeat fathers refuse to pay for and raise their children. Therefor leaving it to the mom to clean up the mess left behind, that is until the state gets their money back. You say "I know I donít enjoy paying for people who CHOOSE not to work". I'm outraged that when I was pregnant I was refused a job over dumb young pregnant teens that get jobs and up and quit them bc they can't handle Brixton hicks or morning sickness and working. I applied everywhere and was turned down bc I was pregnant. Now my 5 month old and I are stuck on this program until I can get hired. I would love to feel the pride again of having a job like I have since I was 16 yrs. old. Not all mom's out there are using this program to be lazy, some like me are just doing it bc my son deserves the help. I refuse to spend one cent on myself I will never. His father once on child support will be forced to pay it all back. So the tax dollars are not wasted. Just used tipperary. Once I find employment I will never have to see another link card with my name on it again. I hope for my son and I that will be very soon. As the little cash I get is nothing compared to my old paychecks. Anyone who works min. wage gets 2 times if not more from a part time job.
Also you can only use this program for 5 yrs in 1 lifetime... so anyone trying to live off of it will get a big shock when they find themselfs without any help one day and they will find jobs!! Or so I hope they are smart enough to do that much.
