We don't need more trailors in Clearfield!

I went to visit my mother on Clearfield Hill today and she told me that the neighbors may be preparing to put in MORE TRAILORS. Just what Clearfield DOESN'T need. I have nothing against people who live in trailors, but there are just entirely too many in this area. And they aren't even nice trailors- they are junky-looking! The people who own the land aren't interested in taking care of the neighborhood- They just want to make a quick buck. My family has lived there for thirty years, and what was once a nice, cute family neighborhood has turned to trash. Can we not get some zoning laws in place to stop this madness?

If someone buys a piece of land they should be able to do what they want with it. If you want to control a parcel of land then you need to buy it. Dont complain because someone else pays for something then does with it as they like.

Have you been in Clearfield lately? It is the poster child for zoning. Under most circumstances, I agree with you and would not want anyone telling me what to do with my land, HOWEVER it is a very small piece of land that can not support the number of trailors they want to put in. It will be like sardines.

Then buy the land and do with it as you wish, our constitution is supposed to give us the right to do with our assets as we wish, so if they want to put a trailer park there and they paid for the right to do so...what is to be expected?

I do not think you understand what type of property this is- It is not like they are going to put the trailors on an empty lot... It is a yard in front of a house in a small neighorhood. My mother lives in a subdivision on Clearfield Hill. All of the houses are fairly close together, with small yards. It is one of the few places in Clearfield that is still cute. Property owners should be able to do what they want... within reason. The neighbors ARE impacted by their actions. We have to deal with the extra traffic and the loss of real estate value, due to the trashy trailor that showed up on the neighbor's yard. It would be impossible for me to buy all the houses on Clearfield Hill. Most of them have been owned by the same families for years. I am all for property owner's rights, and believe in the constitution, but that doesn't mean they can do whatever they want with no regard to anyone else.

That is exactly what it means otherwise we would be living in a communist society, but five it a while pelosi and obama are doing all they can to 'change' our world

Don't make me gag- I hate Obama and Pelosi. I am actually a pretty hardcore Republican. There is a big difference in a communist society (or Socialist, the way things are going here lately) and having reasonable zoning regulations. Otherwise, we might end up with strip clubs next to elementary schools. This isn't Mom and Dad putting a mobile home on the farm for the kids to live in. This is neighborhoods being turned into sardine cans and it is getting out of hand.

State regulations provide minimum spacing requirements for both the homes and parking for cars, I dont see things in Rowan County getting out of hand, in fact they just passed more regulations for mobile homes. For the investment and return trailer parks are quicker to return the investment, and more easily converted at a later date to property use that fits the rate of rents for the neighborhood. Property/neighborhood values have to be pretty cheap to allow the investment of a trailer park to pay off to begin with. Sell out and buy something with lot restrictions, sometimes you have to buy your neighborhood to ensure the quality thereof.

That's good they passed new regulations! Maybe that will solve this problem. I'll see what I can find out. btw- If you don't think Clearfield is out of hand, just remember that they have found at least two meth labs in trailors right down the road from Clearfield School. I used to play on these streets, it's so sad!

Nutball? Well if you think there are too many trailers put up or shutup and buy the land to do what you want with it. Thats a Constitutional right, not a 'nuball' idea.

The existance of drug and other related crimes that have arisen in the Clearfield area, has proven to be associated with trailor park residents. I too believe in the right to do whatever one wants with personal property...but as with all laws and rights...infringement on the rights of others must always be a consideration. Otherwise we are not republicans or democrats...we are barbarians. Clearfield is quickly becoming a crime ridden area, controls need to be in place and enforced. Zoning is only a first stsep.

By this logic, there should be no problems with a strip club setting up next to a school.

I dont' care where you go in Morehead, Clearfield, On campus. Drugs are a problem everywhere. And because of the University and Hospital, businesses etc... There is no where for people to live in Morehead, so of course there gonna move to the closet place they can, which is Clearfield, And please with the economy the way that it is people are lucky if they have enough funds to rent a trailer. I agree it shouldn't look trashy, but if you don't want it move or buy all the property around you or your parents!!
As far as drugs go they have been around for a very long time, everywhere, they have just become more visable, and when you have an increase of people in a small area of course it will seem like Clearfield is turning into a drug den, It has been for a long time.
And as far as the police or UNITE doing anything about it, its a joke. They catch someone, they turn into a snitch and then contimues as they were, not at all helping the situation.
It would have come around our sweet little town sooner or later, I remember when you didn't even have to lock your door and nite, those days are gone!! Crime is rampant everywhere!! And if there is no where else to live, well you gotta live somewhere!! But I agree they should do it in a better and cleaner manner than they do!!

Drugs have always been a problem in Rowan (for decades anyway) going back to the good ole days of bootlegger and moonshine corruptions. As a college town SOMEONE is gonna provide the stuff for the party crowd, might as well be the established ones? I remember connecting the dots back in the 1980s as the town went wet after the big busts of POST 8
