The "chimney" mentioned in this piece should be posted with boaters warned to stay away from it. If it becomes very active a boat directly over it will sink as the density of a mixture of gas and water is lower than 1 and will not float the boat.

While this gas is probably sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide there is a similar phenomenon in what is called the Bermuda Triangle where it is thought large blocks of methyl hydrate turn to methane gas, bubble up through the sea water and may have sunk some ships! This has not been witnessed, but may be one of the reasons so many boats have vanished there.

are you sure flying saucers weren't involved Adrian? The odds of that high a concentration occurring? Evidence that it has happened, anywhere, at any time?
Whatever, I thought the lake was just full of stolen motorcycles, trash and dead bodies, maybe we should drain it to see sometime (and flush Yolo county into the delta at the same time-you want water, we'll give you water!).

Can't drain it Philip, ever hear of the Grigsby Riffle?

It is very refreshing to hear something good about the overall health of the lake. The global warming effecting climates everywhere may be the cause of the shad die-off over the last two years, thus causing the grebes to go elsewhere to mate. There are also fewer yellow-headed blackbirds nesting in the reeds offshore as well. If one wants to discover the beauty and splendor of Clear Lake rent a canoe or kayak, it is well worth it.

plenty of times it's been proposed to deepen the grigsby riffle, but I was just joking wow, I can see I'll have to dumb things down a bit so you can keep up-again! Nothing is stable in the lake, fish populations boom and crash, so do algea and weed blooms, which sometimes can be linked to the weather but not always.

I wish you men would be civil toward one another in all of your posting reponses to the various articles. Stop referring to each other as dumb or attempting to outdo one another. My recommendation would be to make more love and less war. I'm sure your wife, significant other, or lover would appreciate it. Just think of all that dynamic energy focused on giving pleasure instead of inflicting pain. Oh my.

After living in and walking out to Buckingham point, I was told that those mansions along the lake only have septic systems and water flows down hill to the lake.

I find it very hard to believe that wow is female, as only one in 800 women have the sarcasm chromosome. Besides, women love me, as I am useful around the house and have lots of un-focused dynamic energy. And I recycle! Top that wow!

If it's ladies choice, rather than a room and a bed, I'd rather have a tent and a sleeping bag. If Wow is a woman, and so am I, and we are living in the bravest state in this country, being the same sex and together shouldn't be a problem. I guess this has something to do with the lake???

Franz is the self-proclaimed expert on the lake's toxic contents and admits to mercury and other heavy metal contamination. Not to mention the caca smell and taste. Not to mention the parasites that attack human flesh. Nobody wants to make a bigger issue of these things for fear of losing big bass sponsorships and the associated incomes for the merchants. The fish smell and taste so bad the dogs won't even eat them.

Hey Franz,

I fell off my kayak in the lake yesterday, and I have been itching ever since. I am experiencing a rash effect, but also don't know how much of it is from being exposed to poison oak from my mother's place in Mendo Co. You would think, well really hope, in a perfect world that one uncomfortable skin irritation would cancel out the other. Just wishful thinking in guess, maybe a good soak in an oatmeal bath might help.
