I would like to bring attention to some antics of our local Morning Dollar Store employees. I was shopping the other day and had seen an old friend and they were telling me about how the employees will whisper, stare, and then follow you all over the store. Well, I thought that she had just misjudged it, until I stood and watched it for myself. Not only did they stand there and talk about them, I followed behind just to see the employees following them. We sadly had to go back there a few mornings later to buy a last minute gift, and I'll be damned to hell if they didnt do it again. Only this time I had two things and one I set one down, when i went to check out they wanted to know where the other thing was...as if i was trying to shoplift. I think that its sad that they have nothing better to do but follow me around and watch me. That does happen to be a form of harrasment. Next time I'll have proof. So be aware when you shop at the Dollar General!!!

Maybe the reason they were staring and whispering is because they thought you were trying to steal something..not that you were, but hey, instead of getting on forum abd bashing, why don't you kust call the company, report to their manager. Maybe they had a store meeting and everyone is on alert for shoplifting...you know how it is after company meetings. Come on, they are in Tali. If you think they are bad the Alco is worse. The manager there is just plain rude.

Maybe if your friend wasn't guilty we wouldn't be having this conversation about dollar general. They have always been helpful to me. Polite employees. They always greet me at the door.

i haven't commented on this page even tho i wanted to on several of your topics.
the dollar general employees are about the nicest girls in this town.
i have been shopping there for years. as for them talking about you behind your backs you are about four managers behind. if you think they are talking about you you must have done something to make you think that.
if they are following you around then they have a good reason to do so. i have not seen them follow anybody around unless they suspect something.
i think these girls deserve some respect and thanks for keeping a
clean and friendly store. so to the girs at dollar general

Well "joe from missouri" my friend wasnt trying to steal anything! They are very well respected and trusted people in this town. Stalking is not doing their job right. The costumers that I know that they follow in the store have done nothing wrong. I could understand if the ones that they follow are immature teenagers up to no good, but these people are very trusted citizens. They have no good reason to be following them. "rose" maybe you havent seen any of this taking place because you are either one of them or a very close companion. Who's to say you dont help with the stalking..? I just want to be able to shop in peace and not have to worry about someone following me the whole time interupting me and being rude for accusing me or anyone of something like this. Im sure others feel the same way. If it continues much longer that store will be reported.

I would hope after all of this you don't shop in there any more, that is the true way to "punish" a store, don't patronize them. Also if more people would stop shopping in there, the lines would be shorter, and I would not have to wait 20 minutes to check out! I agree with don't sing it, report them or shut up.

I was shopping my next to last day in town and had irritated eyes that were burning and watering and the clerk there asked if I was okay and needed help. Over all they were okay enough the few days I lived there

Redbear, sorry you had such a hard time with Talihina, overall it is not a bad place, and yes the roads are small, housing is limited. And unfortunately the people of this town are not very trusting to newcomers. There is no welcoming committee, and the people can be a bit cold, but we are a strong community. I am terribly sorry it did not work out for you, but you did not talk to the right people:)

Redbear, I too investigated (so I thought) this town before relocating here. It first it seems great! The people are friendly, the scenery is wonderful and a layed back kind of place. Unfortunitely, within a year I found out that these people are NOT what they seem to be. As you can see from this site, the people will degrade you if you ever look sideways at them. Just go back and read some of the old topics. The people of this town whom are trying to better it (Rhonda and other new business owners), take alot of crap from the 'locals/natives'. Which is what will happen to you if you try to 'interrupt' their little world. I have a great job here, so I can't leave any time soon. But as soon as I can, I will!

The only way you will ever survive this town, is if you live out of the 'city', mind your own business, don't talk to or about anyone and dont ever get involved with the organized 'groups'(chamber/TMS/Police/Fi re Dept).

Oh, and if you have ANYTHING negative in your past, they will dig it up and put it on the front page of this blog site and the local newspaper!

You'll see what I mean by their replys to this statement....I'm about to get slammed for telling the truth! Read on......

Hey that is not all true, although some of it is. You just have to, as they say, choose your friends wisely. You can tell the difference from the "transplants", and the "locals". But for the most part, they are good people. Yes, you are right, the gossip does get out of hand, and there are lots of people who live/thrive on drama, but if you do not participate in it, it won't bother you. And yes, yes, yes, do get involved, in everything you can, and be persistant. You may feel like you are running into a brick wall for a little while, but if you are well-meaning, you can "be the change you want to see." There are gossips in every town. It is just that Talihina is kinda cut-off, so to speak, from the rest of the world, so we run out of people to talk about, and some people get doubled up on.:) I'm not saying its right, I'm just saying. It is a nice place...for the most part.

It was an experiance and really a good one. I had to learn to sit and unwind and take a semi vacation, even though I worked 7 of the 10 days there. I was able to remember what I had to live in when I was in my 20's too. I see I am too old to relive a past and I am too old to not to learn to sit and rest and I am too young to retire and sit and do nothing. I did find a neat place to stay when I do start taking vacations and I can apply what I learned and venture to other neat towns like Eureka Springs Arkansas and Jefferson Texas and take vacations. Prior to learning this if I ever took a day or two off I called it a vacation and I though I had to be back home in my own bed and at work the next day. I've worked 2 jobs for the last 22 years and have not called in anymore then 4 days. I needed my time in Talihina but one can not live on vacation. My work time there covered all my costs plus I gained a little extra. Tonight I get to go dancing in Texarkana and then go to church and then go fishing under the pines and cypress.
Take care folks.
